This is my lovely black fox character Luna for the RPG “Ironclaw” i am playing.

Luna grew up in the town of LaClaire in the country of Doloreaux near the border with Bisclavret. LaClaire is kind of your typical Alpine town (think Germany or Switzerland), the main religion is a slightly toned down version of penitence with a little bit of lutarism mixed in. The economy is a mix of wine making, wood carving, and wool. Now in “Ironclaw” we play as animals so the wool could not come from sheep, the book shows lots of dinosaur like creatures replacing normal animals, so i am picturing a woolly raptor or something (will have to draw this :)).

Luna was born as a black variant of the red fox, which unfortunately is seen as some sort of an omen or jinx in the religion in the town, thou most people don’t treat her as such. Her parents were in the wool business so naturally she took on shepherding duties. When she was younger when she would accompany her father in the fields he would notice she would play around with small dead animals and bones she would find. She would play with them like dolls, he didn’t think too much about it just shrugged it off as a kid thing and simply tell her not to play with those dirty things.

Eventually around the age of 12 she took over the duty of watching the flock by herself. One day in the field Luna was approached by an older skunk woman by the name of Araphalia. Araphalia was considered kind of a kooky but harmless old woman who lived in a small home in the outskirts of town near the fields. She had noticed through the years how Luna played with dead things and started general conversation with her about how the dead could be brought back to life with magic. These stories enthralled the young Luna and she always looked forward to her time with Araphalia in the fields. Eventually Araphalia started to teach Luna basics of necromancy, even though the practice was strictly forbidden in all of the country. Eventually Luna became proficient and could re-animate small dead creatures and have them obey her commands. Luna was constantly told that the things she was being taught could not be told to anyone or risk the both of them being imprisoned by the church or nobles.

As the years went by Luna became a skilled apprentice of necromancy of Araphalia and she could soon animate larger creatures and people. Unfortunately Araphalia became ill and died but before she passed on she gave Luna her book of spells, ebony wand, and her pendant. Luna missed Araphalia’s teachings, conversation, and company in the fields and would go to her grave and talk to the headstone.

Luna continued to practice the art when she was in the field. One day she was practicing re-animating a dead sheep-dinosaur creature that was killed by a predator the night before when her father showed up with some lunch. As soon as he saw the dead creature alive again and Luna holding the wand with a shocked look on her face. Before she could utter any words her father started yelling at her for practicing the forbidden arts. He called her a jinx that would bring shame to the family and told her to go away and never return. Luna grabbed the book and some other supplies she had with her and ran off crying. Luna proceeded across Doloreaux never staying in any town to long, she vowed to herself she would not ever show her necromancy abilities to anyone again.

A few weeks later she was getting fatigued from another long days walk. She came out of the forest and saw the town of Berkshire in the distance. She followed the crowds until she stopped by a stream on the just outside the walls and stopped to cool her feet……
