So, for the longest time, I've always drawn a blank for how the Golyum Curse, its magical nature and power to turn someone into a confectionery golem with super strength, regeneration so powerful they can reform from anything in short time, and magical powers and abilities that can be weaponized, or spread the Curse to someone else. I knew I wanted it to be magical in nature, but I never solved the question of where it began. Then Luckypan put this sweetie up for adoption, and thanks to my friend Shizu, I am her owner. And wouldn't you know it, I dreamed about her last night...
And it finally happened; I can answer the source.
Her name is Sally Berrywinkle, and despite her maid like dress, she is a witch of great power and magic... The catch is it's entirely focused towards desserts and candies. No, she can't bring the dead to life, command animals with spells or other such things, but she can bake you a cake to take your mind off your loss, bribe animals with food and in her opinion, pancakes can be a dessert or a breakfast, and she will fight you on this! She's sweet, nice, polite and demur, as expected of a maid, but she can also be very, very wicked.
She serves a lot of people from her confection shop, and sometimes, demand is greater than her supply; it's what drove her to the idea of creating Golyums, self regenerating dessert and candy themed golems that would ensure she'd never be out of stock, or forced to work entire weeks bouncing back and forth between a customer and trying to restock her strawberry shortcakes, gelato or whatever else has run out. Even for a magical witch, it can get overwhelming. Issue is... She can make a golem's body out of sweets and confections, but she can't animate it or breath a spark of life into it. So she decided to at least donate her experiment.
Of course, that's why when one creates a golem with great care, effort and magic, you should also take exceptional care how you dispose of one that cannot be activated. A certain team of Magical Girls consumed the failure of her making, and unknown to either party, completed the work of giving it a spark of life; by using an existing spark. Suffice to say, Sally was elated when she had six functional, TALKING Golyums came knocking on her door, ready to serve. She was so elated, in fact, she never stopped to care where and how they came to be; her experiment worked, she had help and a never ending supply of sweets and fruit she needed, that was enough.
When she DID learn about the Curse, however, when one spread it to a customer named Icewind, the dragoness transforming into a blueberry tart, she started considering what else she could keep in stock full time with her new found curse... After all, she has her own massive sweet tooth to appease.
