Unexpected meeting in the Deep [UW Peril]
Tempo, a male otter and Pela, a female penguin had a special challenge today. Down over 500 meters beneath the ocean surface they had to find and retrieve a scuba tank which they sent down via a rope. However would not be allowed to use scuba gear on the way down. Solely with what they have in their lungs they have to descend and it is a slow descent through the dark water.

It did not take long until the otter was squirming for fresh breath. Truly fresh air was not something Pela could serve but she had used only a small fraction of her oxygen. Being a penguin certainly had some advantages. So she took him into a hug and then into a kiss. Tempo's already puffy, purplish cheeks inflated even a bit more before he started breathing from her. This turned the shade of his face back towards red - for a while at least - and they resumed swimming downwards.

They had to repeat this process more than once before the end of the rope was finally coming into view. At that point Pela had given up the last of her own air however. Her chest was deflated and on fire and so was Tempo's.
Highly compressed bubbles leaked from their lips and beak as they were squirming their way on. Both of them were clawing with the webbed paws and flippers towards that saving grace in the distance below. Will they reach it in time before water floods their lungs? And will they have enough control over themselves to actually use it? And who will get to breathe first?.. <:

Not many could!
For otters it is an extreme feat. Not so much for penguins surprisingly: https://www.antarctica.gov.au/about-antarctica/animals/...
