We really gonna head back to her homeland and see what happens to the nerdy ferrets attempting to break that seal of the fennec mummy tomb! We really wanna see that shocking and cursed ending to Sho-moron's army fall!

So, I've spent the past two days binging this comic because I've become captivated by it. It's really well written, and I love all the different dynamics at play.
I really like the girls, and I find Shomari intriguing. I'm... actually kinda fond of him. I don't want to say he's a good guy, because he's still done some vile stuff, but all things considered, as a warlord, he's not as bad as I'd expect him to be. I think you could just as easily have a conquer who's much more ruthless, an sadistic than Sho is. Like, half this comic is him going, "Ah yes, you've amused me. You may live." Among other things, he's cared for the young, set up medical care for the people he's subjugated, and has allowed most of the previous leadership to live. He seems well spoken, and very straight forward. I see him as more of a diplomat, than a just complete brute.
Compared to what I'd expect from other warlords, and the time period this seems to take place in, I'm sure you could probly find worse. Without intending to sound too apologetic towards Sho, the people he conquers seem to fare about the same under him, than their previous rulership, with maybe an exception for the Sah'eel. Take the Sahjarat for example. They still had a dictator, the King. So much so, that they seem to be elevated to god emperors. The ruling class is decided by nepotism. It seems to reign over feudal communities, and siphon their resources to their own stomachs, while the serfs starve. When it comes to protection and whose worth saving, they seem to invoke the idea of the, "worthless eaters," which is problematic. So, I have to wonder; how much worse is it for them under Sho's subjugation, than their own governance? Atleast, he seems keen on rewarding them for serving him well, including their own freedom. Which is... a type of meritocracy. Where as before, the lower casts would send their sons and daughters to die, instead of the nobles, and their protege. In return they might be given safety, which should really be their god given right anyways. Their lives are only of value if they're useful to the system, and those that rule over them. Then you have a princess who wants to tear it all down, and the monster who seems like he might teach her how.
When it comes to Sho's relationship to the girls, again, he's not great. He kinda is what he is. Given his profession, and the time period, I do think he treats them better than can be expected. They seem to be given a fair amount of freedom, and maybe even capable of holding positions of authority over his ranks. Case in point, the Solars still consider Naunet to be their high priestess. Do they carry the authority of a general? No, but they still seem to be respected.
I think in case of Ess, it's interesting because in the last few pages Sho is doing some pretty horrible stuff to her, but I think there's something else that's easily missed. I get the impression that he's coaching her on how to become a stronger leader. His whole talk of, "if you cry, they cry." I can't help but wonder if there's more to him than just war, fucking, and dick sucking.
I don't condone most of the things he's done, and I'm certain that Sho's generosity is to suit his own means. But, I don't think he's as black and white as we might consider him. Part me is a bit frustrated cause it's like... Dude... you have almost all the right pieces. You could be awesome if you weren't such a fucking rape happy asshole. Just don't be a dick, even though it's like 1/4th of your body, my guy.
Anyways, I really like the comic and the art style for it is very nicely rendered. I look forward to reading more of it.

Yeah sorry, it was long. I think Sho is interesting. He's like that meme where dude says to Wreck It Ralph, "Just because we are bad guy, does not mean we are bad guy." Compared to other examples of warlords, Sho is not as bad. Granted the bar is really low, but either because he doesn't care, or otherwise, he arguably offers more freedoms to the women he collects than some of their native governments would allow. In some cases, the best they could hope for was to be traded to other royal families for better trade agreements or treaties, and there's no garuntee they'd have been treated kindly. Is Sho, really that different?would the fennec royal family allow their princess to see the world beyond just the walls of another castle? She had to fight just to carry a bucket of water, and change bandages. It's clear that Sho, in his own really fucked up way, has some degree of care for his women. Not saying everything he does is good.
Besides...we all know what really motivates Sho. He has a thing for Disney princesses.
