Amanda wasn't always this independent. When she was only a month old, she served the queen of her colony, along with her sisters; not even having her own name. Stuck in a typical hivemind as a worker, she never knew of freedom or independent thought, only the need to serve her queen. That is, until one day when she went to gather food, her queen died of unknown cause, causing the colony to die with her. Amanda, too, would die, had a certain magical caretaker not rescued her and nursed her back to health, as well as magically extend her lifespan.

Confused, Amanda looked to her savior, an ant like her, but able to change her size to that of a large equine, and followed her to her daycare. There, Amanda saw the children residing in it and became curious. "What are they doing?"

"Oh? You've never heard of playing, before?" the old ant asked.

"Play...-ing? What is 'play-ing'?"

"My, it seems that hivemind you were under made you quite the work-a-holic. Playing is the act of having fun and enjoying life. It is part of being free."

"Free" Amanda was confused.

The old ant simply chuckled. "It seems, much like a baby, you are still learning about the world. I think you'll fit right in. Especially if you're only a month old."

Amanda continued to be confused, but over time, learned about individuality and independence, even giving herself a name, and finally understood "freedom".

Amanda, now four years old, is very athletic and love sports. She surprises the other kids with her remarkable strength, being able to lift several times her size, and socializes with ease, though an occasional awkward moment or two still trips her up at times. She's great friends with Clarise, and enjoys her company, with Clarise returning in kind.

Of course, being a tiny ant, potty training was out. Most potties were far too big for her to use, and her accidents were small enough that cleaning her wasn't a big issue. Downside was, however, that she could only wear cloth diapers, but she didn't mind. In fact, she found them comfortable and would gladly show them off to others, though she would learn some modesty, instead wearing sweatpants over them when in public.
