After getting home from school, Mocha changed into more comfortable clothes and started working on her homework while her mother, Cream, began prepping dinner for the family. But Mocha was curious, as her father was strangely absent. Usually, Tails would be in his laboratory working on a project of sorts, pausing for a moment so she could give him a hug and a kiss.
But for some reason, Tails was missing today, and her father's absence was causing her to be unable to focus. "Hey Mommy, where's Daddy?"
Cream looked up from her cooking to turn and glance in Mocha's direction, a curious expression on her own face. "Actually, you know what? That's a really good question. I haven't seen him all day."
Before Mocha could follow up with another question, the kitchen suddenly went dim, as the sunlight faded from the windows. "Hey! Is it supposed to rain today?"
"No...there hasn't been a cloud in the sky. Something isn't right." The next thing they knew, the ground seemed to rumble around them, causing both bunnies to look outside and see a giant object in the backyard. "What in the world is that?!"
They both rushed outside, and there they saw Tails coming from around the giant object, a huge grin on his face as he walked over to his two favorite girls. "Mocha, sweetpea, remember when you asked me if you could get a chao?"
"Yes?" That's when Mocha looked all the way up, her eyes widening and a giant grin appearing on her face as her hands made their way to her cheeks in barely contained excitement. "Oh...my...goodness...Daddy, you didn't!"
"Yeah, Tails, you didn't, right?"
Tails rubbed the back of his neck as he looked up sheepishly at his wife, whose expression was just as dumbfounded but nowhere near as enthusiastic. "I...might have gone a little overboard, I'll admit. But it just seemed logical, y'know? Big chao for a big girl, and we both know she's gonna be a real giantess someday."
Cream didn't get a chance to offer a rebuttal, as Mocha finally lost her battle with her own excitement and squealed at the top of her lungs, rushing up to the egg and hugging it with all her might. "Oh thank you! Thank you so much Daddy! I promise I'll take good care of Orange!"
"Orange?"
"Yeah Mommy! That's gonna be his name! You have Cheese, Grandma has Chocola, and I have my big, beautiful Orange!"
"Well, that settles it. She named it, we're stuck now."
Cream shot a quick glare at her husband, watching as Mocha completely showered the giant egg with affection, hugging and kissing it like it was the most beautiful thing she'd ever seen. "You do realize that there's no way we have enough room here for that thing, right? Please tell me you realize that?"
"As a matter of fact, I do. And that brings up my second surprise."
"Second surprise?" The question itself was filled with dread. "I'm not sure I can handle another surprise like this one, Tails."
"Don't worry, I think you'll like this one." Tails smiled reassuringly. "We've been living in this house since long before Mocha was born, and it's been amazing. But considering how quickly she's growing, not to mention the fact that you haven't stopped yet either, eventually we're going to outgrow this place, both literally and figuratively."
"Tails, are you saying-"
"I am, Cream. I don't intend to uproot Mocha from her friends, we have enough resources that we'll still be able to let Mocha go to her school and see all her friends like normal...but I think it's time we moved to someplace a little more wide open, and maybe closer to your mom's house."
Finally, Cream smiled. "Okay, that's a surprise I can get on board with...but we're still gonna have one heck of a time trying to figure out how to deal with...Orange."
"Chao chao chao..."
"You said it, Cheese."
