Kartonis was strolling along until he spotted a shiny golden default cube conspicuously lying in the middle of a dry lake. Stepping forward the dragon strolls on, ignoring the cracked ground giving way to clay-like mud beneath his talons. Kartonis continues onward, ignoring the shallow muck clinging to his claws until suddenly the wobbly cracked earth gives way to quicksand, instantly swallowing the lower half of the red dragon.

Struggling against the clay, Kartonis attempts to pull one of his legs free but the quicksand is unyielding. The thick mud cloying on the dragon's scales as he sinks deeper into the mess, bubbles emerging from buried pockets of air freed by the struggling creature.

Flailing his mud-covered wings, Kartonis tries in vain to swim across only to be rewarded with more inches of decent into the quicksand. With the cool mud flowing over the dragon's back, he firmly presses his wings into clay-like mud to lift himself out a few inches, only for his wings to now be stuck fast beneath the ever encroaching mud. With Kartonis' wings mired deep, panic sets in fully. The dragon squirms and tugs on his limbs to free even one of them from the clay but he only manages to increase the speed of his decent.

With not much of the dragon remaining above the surface of the voracious quicksand, Kartonis tilts his head back, hoping to keep the bubbling mud from getting into his maw. Soon enough, the rest of Kartonis' snout sinks into the quicksand, the voracious clay-like mud swallowing the dragon entirely. The surface of the mud quivers and bubbles as the panicked dragon struggles beneath surface as the rest of Kartonis' air escapes his lungs.

Beneath the quicksand, Kartonis' lungs eventually begin burning for air, and soon the dragon relents and breaths in a maw full of mud. The wet clay flows into the drowning dragon, soon filling his lungs as the creature's struggles slowly ceases, the last bit of life floating to the surface as one last bubble.

Karty commissioned me to make an image sequence featuring the muddy red derg himself.
