Bakunawa is a Philippine mythological serpent-like dragon of the seas associated with earthquakes and the eclipse. Folklore tell a tale where Bakunawa, ruler of the seas, was jealous of the radiance and beauty of the then 7 moons that lit the night sky in cycles. As such, Bakunawa would rise up and eat the moon that rose up, prolonging the night with more darkness. Bakunawa would claim 6 of the 7 moons, cobbling each one, but before it could take the final moon the ancient people would make a lot of noise, banging pots and pans to scare the giant dragon, and it worked. A startled Bakunawa would return to the seas, leaving only one moon to continue to bless the night skies with its light.

A light that, unfortunately for Kyn, would wash over the jolteon wolfess, transforming her into the imposing sea dragon of myth, and all in time for the year of the Dragon too! Of course, the newly minted dragon wasn't too keen on her new body, mostly because Alyna, whom she was with at the time was nowhere to be seen. Kyn had grown so large that she towered over the trees and flattened the surrounding field. She couldn't even speak, instead loudly growling and roaring, which to her might've been normal speech, but to Alyna and others in surrounding towns, her cries were deafening.

Worse still, her natural electricity would be enhanced, bright light glowing from the tip cackling with an energy Kyn could not control. It would sparkle and lightly tan the grass below it while its light would be enough to blind. Just like the stories of the past this new Bakunawa, or Bakynawa, would be a terror that threatens the night, but unlike before the fear would come not only from the people, but the new dragoness as well, as the new change in species would bring panic to the girl.

Thankfully, the change would only last for a whole day, and as the celebrations of Chinese New Year pass, Kyn and Alyna, who'd remain by her friend's side throughout her ordeal, would have a relatively safe rest of their weekend.

Wanted to keep up with tradition by having a fun pic featuring Chinese Zodiac of the year (this year it's Year of the Wood Dragon), and as I've wanted to incorporate some of my culture in my art as of late, I opted to draw Kyn as Bakunawa to showcase some Philippine folklore. You can read more about the Bakunawa in the link below if you're curious, as my super short summary at the top doesn't do it enough justice I think.

As for you lovely folk reading my silly stories and checking out my art, I wish you all a wonderful and safe CNY, and Gong Xi Fa Cai~!
