Buck you… You told me that friendship is supposed to be magic. But why has mine become so tragic? Why was the first friendship mistake I ever made enough for you to send me straight down to Tartarus, the worst prison for the worst villains that Equestria has to offer? Where is the second chance you taught me about? Where is the friend who will stand up for you when you mess up? You don’t even care to get to know me or learn why I did what I did.

Your friendship school is all bullshit, Princess. You have failed me. Don’t ever try to redeem me. Don’t expect any redemption from me. You have made the worst villain out of me.

Your former student and now sworn enemy,
Cozy Glow.

I blame some of the fans, they were the ones complaining about too many villains getting reformed, they got what they wanted.

I blame the authors for that. From all possible villains it's the child that got sent to pretty much hell.

The show just became incredibly poorly handled towards the end. Yes, Cozy was vicious and self-serving but compared to Discord, chrysalis and especially Tirek, all of whom probably have deaths on their resume, her punishment feels severe. I'll go one farther with Starlight who had the pettiest motivation but her alternate timelines have thousands or potentially millions dead! Maybe I could accept it if she was a "little pony" ie an adult with the physical appearance of a child, so she's actually much older than she looks, but someone that young being that sociopathic should warrant some investigation rather than "lock her up and throw away the key".

One other possibility is that after chrysalis rejected Starlight's offer of friendship that everyone was just like "fuck this, we're sick of dealing with villains, lock her up!" but that's just me.

My doubts about this are kind of summarized in a fanfic called "Two words" where many years later, Twilight's confidence in her decision is shattered by two students saying "I guess the lesson is friendship is nice but having some petrifaction curses on hand just in case."

I'm still wondering what made Cozy Glow into that level of monster when she's clearly still a pre-teen and younger than the CMC, is she just one of those stereotypes of autism that are super brillaint but socially inept? Maybe not since she's a skill manipulator but that doesn't preclude that possibility. Did she seek out Tirek or did he cultivate her? (genuinely asking because I forgot and I don't want to rewatch season 8 to find out again)

I'm done speculating though but I just affirmed that FiM was very poorly written towards the end

The thing is, we don't even know who made the choice for Cozy Glow. It was quite likely Celestia that made the decision, as Twilight would never argue with her over anything. Same for the trio's punishment, Twilight just sat back as her teacher made the decision for her.

Discord:   He makes it questionable to reform (ESPECIALLY WHEN HE F-ED UP ON THE LAST SEASON)
Starlight:  She was messing with the time-space continuum and I don't think she'd realize what kind of effect it'd have on her especially after the spell hit so much.  Though I'm glad she is a real reformation...even if it feels rushed.
Chrysalis:  She rejected it and she threw away the offer overall so I saw this coming and felt not all heroes can be called back.
Starswirl's student Stygian: He is recovering from the pains and while it was quick, sometimes one's heart can be returned from the darkness.
Cozy Glow:  She was conspiring to not only double-cross her kind but ALSO double-cross her fellow villains.  All to destroy all of the magic in existence and the like.  I honestly don't see her being forgiven at all....though if she was to be given kindness... she needs a reprogramming system.

Yeah... For a while there it seemed Tirek, Chrysalis and Cozy actually started to form some kind of weird family dynamic. I wouldn't have minded if they followed through on that, but the ending we got was rather... bizarre.

Dear Princess Celestia!

Today I've learned the following: Ponykind will always have an enemy to fight against. To reveal any possible new threat, I came up with a "Lure & Trap". Henceforth, I chose the well known infamous evildoer pegasus {named Cozy Glow} to be my personal Nemesis. I already know her. I already know how to stop and defeat her. I will create a shadow organization, that will work in secret, and spread the tale of the "Mighty Cozy Glow" who needs rescue from her imprisonment judgment. That way, I only need to keep one eye on her constantly, and possible new threat to Equestria will reveal it'self, taking this clever lure, making it easy to deal with them early, before they even manage to grow strong.

The friendship lesson? Keep my friends close, but my enemies EVEN CLOSER!

They also made no attempt to give friendship to Tirek (someone Cozy Glow was an apprentice to). They threw him right back into Tartarus after his first defeat.

They also made no attempt to befriend Sombra either. They literally killed him both times he showed up. No negotiations possible.

So I think the only reason people thought it was unreasonable was because of her age. Also do keep in mind she was learning all about friendship in the school and only decided to use it as weapon to further her goals rather than using it for anything positive. She was a minipulative b who unlike some others, knew fully well how disaterous her plan was going to be, and planned on it to help her as a result.

Screw Cozy.
