Actually, her father is based on an "elephant shrew," or sengi, which has very little to do with an European shrew except that some explorer in 1829 thought it was similar but its nose looked a little like an elephant's. What that explorer didn't know, was that genetically they are closer to elephants than to any animal in Europe.
