So FarelleMoon was needing a mermaid character for a story they're working on. While they ended up taking up my manatee mermaid, they still wanted a more traditional mermaid character too. So I offered to make up another mermaid.
Since the two characters' personalities were going to be different, I wanted to have their colorations and such reflect that. It sounds like these are going to an "opposites attract" type of deal. So I went for a much thinner look for her and an overall brighter design.
I'm also a HUGE fan of mermaids being based off of fish. I think that's fun. This girl is inspired by the cuckoo wrasse, though simplified a bit.
Fun fact. The top's design was semi by accident. I tend to do very symmetric designs (a habit I'm trying to break). I wanted it to match her tail but couldn't decide which color. So I did half in one, half in the other to compare it. And, ahhh, I really liked it so it stuck that way, haha. Other fun fact is that her hair is tied up by seaweed, I imagine. And yes, that is a fishing hook on her necklace. :)
