Humanity itself is quite different in the gaiaverse. For example, much like their pokemorph cohorts, humanity is quite tough, be it humans who have trained enough being able to shatter rocks, humans surviving jumps that would leave a human from our world crippled, if not dead, or humans with powers.
Some bloodlines of humanity have unique powers to them, for example, some from the mountains of northern and central europe have a natural knack for machinery and minerals. People of this bloodline tend to have enhanced endurance and the ability to manipulate metal with their bare hands. They have natural affinity with ice as well.
Unlike what a horrible racist would believe, bloodlines mixing do not in fact taint or corrupt the abilities in any way, and the offspring will often have a mix of both parents’ abilities.
An ability seen world-wide, seemingly not seriously connected to blood, is the ability to sense, comprehend, and use the psychic membrane as they see fit.
In the Kanto-Johto area, one ethnicity known as the Dragonkind, notable for their red and/or blue hair, and, much like their relatives, the Ryusei no Tami of Hoenn, deep connection with dragon type pokemon and pokemorphs.
Part of what led to this path of evolution was the fact that they were often locked in brutal struggles with prehistoric pokemon, be it packs of Dire Mightyena, Cave Luxray, or hunting herds of mamoswine. Through natural selection, humans with either great physical strength and resilience, intense cunning, or special powers, often connected to the membrane of the universe, were the ones who survived
Humans able to tame these beasts, a risky and time consuming task, often gained a valuable partner in the process, one who could help in many ways, be it companionship, hunting assistance, or aiding their villages.
To many of the more open and less blood-honor tribes of humans, the coming of pokemorphs, as reflected in many wall murals came as a peculiar surprise, especially as curiosity took over, and said creatures were invited into the tribe.
A common image among Homo Sapiens living in northern africa, western europe, and central europe, shows what appears to be a representation of meteors streaking through the sky, before the pokemorphs mysteriously appeared
Some tribes, like those who’s paintings were found in site #85323, near Geosenge, showed were much less welcoming, often coinciding the appearance of the meteors and sudden appearance of the pokemorphs with a believed doomsday. Tribes like these were cautious or even hostile towards pokemorphs, even turning away their fellow tribesmen for contact with one.
Some, like the cannibalistic tribes seen in fossils from the mountains in northern europe, known for it’s scarcity of resources, saw the pokemorphs as a threat on their food chain and hunted them, and anyone who allied with them. This was a losing battle, and by 6,000 BC, many of these cannibal tribes, due to rampant inbreeding, being picked off by pokemorph and human alliances, and diseases from cannibalism or inbreeding, died off.
Writings by pokemorphs, known for their distinct wavy style, show that pokemorphs did get turned wary of humans following attack by the northlanders.
Similarly, some of the pokemorph groups saw themselves as the new rulers of the world, ready to obliterate humanity, seeing humans as mere food and fellow pokemorphs as total fools who should die with them. However, many of these groups were defeated and either annihilated or assimilated too by joint human-pokemorph attack, a symbol of the teamwork the two species have.
Many pokemorphs in human society do have trainers, and many of these trainers are assisted by people known as Handlers to help take care of their pokemorphs. Handlers handle things like getting supplies for the pokemon or helping them relieve stress or go through difficult situations they may not be able to alone.
A trainer’s role in a pokemorph’s life is a lot less intrusive than for a traditional pokemon’s life. Usually a trainer will more advise a pokemorph on what move to use, rather than command they use it. A trainer or handler can also be a second pair of eyes for a pokemon in a battle or a high risk situation. A trainer can also be a shoulder for a pokemon to cry on, and occasionally, a love interest for the pokemon.
An abusive trainer can expect reprisals if the pokemorph they abuse eventually seeks revenge on them, as was the fate of a once famous but cruel breeder in Kanto, slain by the eevee he abused, after said eevee evolved into a sylveon rather than an umbreon. Also slain were his prized pokemon and pokemorphs, who aided in said abuse.
Many times, pokemorphs who have the same trainer can form friendships and even romantic bonds, when being under said trainer doesn’t make them rivals with each other for the trainer’s approval or affection.
Humans and pokemorphs can in fact crossbreed successfully. Their offspring often inherit traits from both parents, with those who have predominately human genes gaining parts signifying their pokemorph heritage such as ears and tails, and those with predominantly pokemorph heritage gaining human traits, often varying based on the human, such as enhanced psychic powers or physical strength.
