Soo, I'm currently in the mood for re-drawing my Sonic AU character reference sheets x3

In this AU, Knux has a wife named Zyanya and two kids named Alexi and Isla :3

Backstory:

Born on the sacred grounds of Angel Island, Knuckles was raised in solitude as the last descendant of the Echidna Clan, entrusted with the eternal duty of guarding the Master Emerald.

Both Knuckles' middle and surnames are Mayan in origin and were inherited from his tribe, due to their strong connection to Mayan bloodlines. His middle name of "Tohil" was given by his tribe's leader meaning: "Fire god of the K’iche’" and his surname of "Chaknal" was inherited from his parents, meaning: “Of the red”; derived from Chak, the rain god".

His lineage is steeped in ancient prophecy—his ancestors were once protectors of Chaos energy, sworn to maintain balance between realms. Though isolated, Knuckles grew up with a deep reverence for tradition, instinctively drawn to the rhythms of the island and the whispers of the wind that carried ancestral memories.

His early years were marked by vigilance and mistrust, shaped by the betrayal of his people and the loss of his tribe. Yet beneath his stoic exterior lay a heart that yearned for connection—a longing he never dared voice aloud.

As he grew, he learned about a hidden location deep within Angel Island named The Hollow of Echoes. This location was a myth even among the oldest scrolls—a place where time folded inward, trapping voices of the past in endless reverberation. It was said to be a prison for those whose destinies had been severed prematurely, sealed by Chaos itself to prevent imbalance.

Knuckles first heard the Hollow’s call during a rare moment of meditation beneath the Master Emerald. A tremor in the energy—a pulse that didn’t belong— which led him to a hidden chamber beneath the island’s crust.

There, suspended in crystalline stasis, was Zyanya—a young Seer of the ancient tribe, her body encased in a prism of Chaos energy, her spirit echoing through the chamber like a lullaby lost to time. As he touched the crystalline barrier, it immediately broke, freeing the young echidna-bat from her stasis. It took some time, but the two eventually developed a strong bond with one another. Knuckles taught Zyanya everything about survival and told her story after story about his ancestors.

Since freeing Zyanya, and remaining on Angel Island with her for many years, Knuckles has found more than companionship—he’s found purpose beyond duty. Together, they’ve begun to uncover the lost truths of the Seer Tribe, the fractured history of the echidnas, and the deeper nature of Chaos energy itself.

Knuckles remains the guardian of the Master Emerald, but now he walks with someone who understands the silence he once bore alone, as well as two descendants of his own; Alexi and Isla, who will one day learn the history of both Zyanya and Knuckles' clans and will forge their own paths in the future.

Personality:

Knuckles is fiercely loyal, strong-willed, and naturally competitive. While he remains the warrior he was raised to be, fatherhood has tempered his impulsiveness, making him more thoughtful in his actions—but only when it truly matters.

He thrives on physical challenges, seeing battle as not just a necessity, but a personal test of skill. Despite his brutal efficiency in combat, he possesses a quiet nobility, taking his guardian role seriously, even if it means making difficult sacrifices.

Though undeniably powerful, Knuckles is incredibly gullible, easily tricked into pointless conflicts or misleading quests, much to Sonic’s amusement. His stubborn nature often leads to frustration, especially when he refuses to back down, even when he’s clearly in the wrong.

Despite his rugged demeanour, his love for his family is unwavering. He is deeply protective, particularly of Isla and Alexi, ensuring they never feel weak or abandoned.

Strengths:

Raw Physical Strength: His brute force is unmatched, making him an intimidating opponent in battle.
Chaos Abilities: Through the Master Emerald and Chaos Emeralds, he channels immense energy, giving him enhanced combat skills.
Endurance & Combat Mastery: Years of training have shaped him into one of the most physically resilient warriors in existence.
Protective Instincts: His loyalty and devotion to his family drive him, making him more than just a fighter—he is a guardian.

Weaknesses:

Gullibility: He is far too trusting, easily fooled into unnecessary fights or manipulated through deception.
Short Temper: Though generally level-headed, his anger can override rational thinking, leading to brash decisions.
Overly Stubborn: Once Knuckles commits to a choice, he refuses to back down, sometimes to his own detriment.
