Summer Evening
What is this?!
Quickie wittle piece that I did mostly just to practice a different technique for doing shadows and highlights.

I tried as much as possible with this picture to be very methodical about how I used Krita. This is making more use of clone layers and transparency masks to allow me to draw shadows and then adjust their color after the fact. :3

In the past I've tried using blending modes and black layers to do shadows, but I've never found a blending mode for shadows that I've really liked, it almost always is better for me to pick a color and do shadows directly in that color, otherwise they look very flat and de-saturated. ;w;

And especially for pieces with multiple colors, how I want shadows to look on a brown surface is different then how I want them to look on a red or green surface, so there's no one good setting for everything, which makes me an angy fox. >w<

For this pic I used clone layers and a transparency mask to copy the base fills across multiple transparent layers that I then brushed to be partially visible again. Then I used a color adjustment filter on each clone so that I could manually change the saturation, hue, and color channels for each part of the image.

It's not perfect and I need to write some helper scripts for Krita to make it less cumbersome to set up, but I think the results are better than what I normally get. :3 I can adjust the shadow colors a lot more, but they still have an underlying logic about how they're affecting the fill, so I can draw them more haphazardly. And because I'm using clone layers, if I go back and change parts of the fill, the shadow colors update automatically. <3

There are frustrating constraints around how you can reference layers in Krita and how you can build masks, but I think this is somewhat promising :3

I also have some other pictures I've been doing with this Eevee while I try to refine their design/character over on my Itaku profile, but they can't be uploaded to Inkbunny because they have humans in NSFW situations <3
