we have a shortage of boy characters that people can like, there is too many weak boys, dumb boys, and annoying boys. we need to fix that somehow. we can't rely on mainstream media stories due to their severe hatred to male characters, so we need to improvise as artists and fans of media that is still lacking in boys quality. our options are 1- use OCs and inject them into the fanart of mainstream media. 2- use background boy characters from the shows and convert their personalities to be more likable boys and start making them interact with the main characters in the fanart. 3- do crossovers where popular boy characters can interact with characters from other TV shows in the fanart. so far, those are the only solutions I can think of, but I'm not sure which ones you prefer. please leave a comment or message me of which one of these you prefer. this will not be the last post I make about this, but I'll try to keep them as enjoyable as possible.

I'm surprised no one has yet bothered to voice their opinion about it.

my thoughts are that all three options should be applied in different scenarios.

after all, some characters need a minor tweak.
some worlds could plausibly get a crossover character from a diagonally related franchise.
and sometimes your only option is to Wing it yourself as there's no one available that could be reasonably improved (much like how Star Butterfly is fucking irredeemable)

well, an OC would be the last resort. as it's the least likely to work. unless I depend on the canon character to flush out the OCs.

turning a background character into an active character with the main character could also work, depending on how I bring them to the front.

as for crossovers, it is the most popular option, but it has it's problems as there is limits to how to make them meet in the first place.

well, when it comes to an OC, the key is to keep them realistically valid to their universe so they don't feel out of place.

the background character thing was done with Adventure Time's Huntress Wizard and the results are widely considered lovely.

well, Crossover-wise it makes sense only if they live in a shared world or at adjacent universes with the means to reach one another (generally magic or sci fi tech)

well, so far, people seem to lean toward crossovers.

maybe that's because pre-existing characters are the easiest to use overall. not everyone can just pull a Snoot Game and remake a character right.

I'm not sure honestly as I can see all three of them being used. I guess I'd go for option 2 as it would allow for more character development background characters.
