I really adore a specific section at our local zoo that has a fun aztec theme by the reptile house. It always gets me giddy and wanting to draw something relating to it. And axolotls made sense as a choice of species for the depiction, though I'd like to do more stuff with various animals I love. I'm also unashamedly into the road to el dorado for the environments and imagery. Most of the lil background patterns are actually inspired by the map from the film -which I have on my desk thanks to a friend. I'm simply enamored by the motifs and colors of mesoamerican cultures as a whole. It just feels special and full of wonder. I even have a tiny stash of crafts from Peru that radiate comfort to my soul. =3=
