Hello my dear followers and art enjoyers.

Currently, I am a bit disappointed. I tried to be a fair artist who tries to make everything public and hopes for the support of his fandom, out of their will to support.
But obviously that doesn't work. I mean one dollar wouldn't hurt, but apperently, I am not good enough for even that to consider.

I always try to be a fair artist, always show everything, never demanding much. But I have to face reality. People would never support me without any benefits for it. And the feeling of supporting an artist, who tries to be a friend to his viewers doesn't seem to work, huh?

So I will change my direction and become mainstream. Congratulations!

From now on my comics except for the comissioned ones and my artworks except for the comissioned ones, will go over to Patreon!
At least that is what I am currently considering. I will wait a bit to actualy decide. becoming one of those fags, I always laugh about. One of those paywall fags. But apperently that's what people want these days.

My plan on using Patreon will be the following:
Very cheap for everything. 2€ that's it. No higher tiers, no big pressure. For 2 you will see everything.
I will upload all of my free artworks there.
Comissions will still be public and maybe one or two special free artworks from time to time.

Mostly TQFQ will vanish behind this paywall and most of my smaller artworks. And maybe even the new projects I plan starting next year.

So that's it. I am disappointed, that I have just 4 people who want to support me. In this pool of around 3K people watching my art. That's sad.

I mean I spend my free time after work to give you (the audience) great art. And I understand that people can't affort comissions every month. I was hopeing when I announced that I use my patreon as donation jar, that some followers might concider at least leavin one buck for the work and time I spend after my actual work. But I was wrong. Noone pays if he doesn't has to.

So as a result, I will hide my better projects behind a paywall, to at least get a little bit of the effort payed, I loose into this.

Be careful artists that go full pay wall lose out quite often, I personally can't pay $1 for every artist I follow (several hundred $ if I did) or even the ones I like (couple hundred a month) IDK how long you have had Patreon but here is what I have observed. *most* artists have early release (a week to a month) as their gimmick for their main body of work; so those who can afford to pay will have a reason to and those who can't can still see their art. A few have Patreon exclusive bonus arts for higher tiers this is sometimes released to the general community 6 months to a year or more after their patrons have had a chance to see it and enjoy the exclusivity.

I agree with you, it is sad if you can't affort your favourite artists, because there are to many. I personaly, only have like 4 or 5 on that list. I think when you have such a problem you have to think of whom you want to support most.

but on the other way around, why do I always have to work on my big projects for free?

Now your other thought of releasing the artworks later on came to my mind aswell. And I think I would go that route too for those who simply can't support me, because they just can't. So I still try to stay social. Also just using one 2 or 3 tier as a "You can get everything" pass. So no 6 € tier for the comics and a 12 € tier for some riddiculus voting stuff.. Nope. Just the minimum for the maximum! That would be my way of staying a friendly and social artist, who just has to pay for his bread aswell.

oh also branch out a little I know steady income is really nice but get a Ko-fi or similar where people can provide one time support tips when they happen to be able to without the monthly commitment otherwise the plan you put up here makes more sense than putting litterally everything behind a pay wall whish is what the original post seemed like it was saying

Believe me, I meant not even 1% of your watchers donating for your beautiful art style and ghe work you make. I honestly wish I could save up money AND have a way to donate to you, but literally no one else did? Where I live, 1$ is pretty hard to come by, but I'm pretty sure where most other people live, it isn't.

I saw this yesterday, but I wanted to wait 'til I was able to give it more than a fast couple of minutes to reply.

Anyway. I'm sorry you feel you have to do things this way. I know the whole paywall thing is something you've always been against, and it sucks that you even have to dangle the possibility to get people to pay attention. Which, as I say this, I realize I'm a part of the problem, seeing as I don't even have a Patreon. But you do deserve the support, and you're right that you sharing your time and work with us for free has been incredibly generous of you. I think people often don't realize just how fortunate we are, as a society, to have such free and easy access to art and artists. It used to be that only the wealthy and powerful could afford to commission art, and they hoarded it away in mansions and churches and palaces, away from everyone else. I know not everyone can afford to pay, and I don't think anyone should be faulted for that. But you'd think a few more people could make an effort to throw you a bone here.

I like the suggestion, above, of releasing art a month or two early on Patreon, before doing a general release here. And some people keep the high resolution posts to Patreon as well. You generally post pretty high res pictures, so maybe you could post smaller ones here, when/if you do, and keep the big stuff for Patreon folks? That way, you wouldn't be pay walling people, but there'd still be a benefit (early release, high res pics) for those who do support you.

Just some thoughts. Whatever way you decide to go with this, you know you have my full support on it.

Well... that's your choice. But I recently had to pull out all my Patreon Pledges. My financial situation is SHIT and due to value conversion of $ I can't even spare much.

Just... be careful... Seen quite a few artists go "supporters only" and just loose most of the followers. It is mostly a matter of luck.
So if you go that way, please keep in mind to temper your expectations. you also need to release SOME art free just to get new followers and to convince them that it might be worth to support you.

I wish you luck.

My current plan would be the following:

First, I devide between payed work and free work. Payed work are comissions. Either single pictures or comics. But also gifts! Pictures which are not supposed to "generate further money".
The other part are my free artworks. My main comics for example or the next great pinup of Madlaine.

Now when I plan on using Patreon only the free artwork will go there. Artwork where I have no customer and I make mostly just for the community to enjoy.

My Patreon won't have different tiers except for one. The "mcKraven suppoerter" tier with a price of 2 bucks. With it you can see everything. No 6$ comic tier. No 12$ tier for random votes or a discord server and stuff. No. Just 2 bucks. I would concider this still quite fair and friendly towards my followers.

Now to those who don't want to pay, simply can't pay, or just don't care:
ALL artworks I post on Patreon WILL be released on my IB and FA account too. Just with a delay of a few months.

The only real "exclusive" stuff I would post on Patreon, would be... secondary artworks. Like a speedpaint of a picture, wich is in itself not very exciting. Watching a piece of art "spawn" on the canvas, with a catchy pop song for 3 minutes. That just "happens to be created" anyways while I draw. Or maybe WIP of artworks that will get free later on too. Maybe and this might be the only real interesting thing, would be comic scripts and maybe some votes about comics, or the new pinup.
Finaly I would give long term supporters, a certain "payback" with some % off, of a comission.

How does this plan sound to you?

I would consider this still very acceptable and follower-friendly!

Definitely fair and reasonable, when my situation improves I will be fine paying those 2 bucks.
I am sorry if my comment seemed accusative or something. In the end, you have to make your money somehow. :D
And your art is good enough, and the comic interesting enough, that I feel it is definitely a fair price.I just wanted to warn you to watch out for the issues and potential angry commenters.
BTW, your reply actually cleared it up more.
