To whiteblur: Nigel's heart wasn't in the right place. On page 36, Luna says to him that he lacks the sincere desire to protect the weak. His parents didn't tell him what it meant to be a Guardian. As for Leopold, he does want to protect the weak from chaos. I don't know who or what he wants to get revenge on, but I think Luna sent him on this mission in hopes the others would either stop him from doing so or help him.
