Ok, it's a little different, I know, but long story short: Rorick's now an umbreon... within a specific setting that is.
To break it down: As a 90's kid, I grew up with Pokemon. I shouldn't have to explain the cultural behemoth it was and still is, especially to those of my generation. I was an OG Gen 1 kid. I still have an actual red version cartridge, though it's a replacement for my original. It shaped a large portion of my formative years and, even though I dropped out of the fad after gen 4, it's always been around in my periphery. The Gen 4 remakes rekindled my love of franchise a few years ago, and now I'm in deep again.
In light of all this, I'm working on yet another new setting, this one a Mystery Dungeon flavor. I've started playing mystery dungeon DX, and I've got to say it's piqued my interest far more than I'd ever thought possible. Still need to beat it, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a world I'd like to play around in. Naturally, this means I'd need a poke-sona, and I gravitated towards Rorick to fill the void. For those who don't know, and I figure that's most, if not all, of you, Rorick's been with me a long freaking time. Part of his longevity comes down to the fact that he was straight up a chameleon when I first came up with him. There was always a core of him, but his species and broad aspects about him would change as the setting dictated. To a smaller extent, this is still happening as shown with "Ranger Rorick", though he thankfully remained a collie in this example.
So, similar to "Ranger Rorick" I tapped into this history he had and repurposed him within my Mystery Dungeon setting. And if he's going to be a pokemon, I might as well make him my favorite 'mon: umbreon. As with many of my things, it's very much still a work in progress, but now that it's out there, I hope it'll start to grow organically, even if progress is slow.
