After all the artwork I'd done to celebrate Fantasia's 80th Anniversary it seemed a real shame not to do something to celebrate Pinocchio's 80th as well. Aside from being the Citizen Kane of animation, I know it's the movie that introduced many of us to TF; I know I certainly wore out the lettering on my VCR's 'Pause' button playing that one scene in slo-mo over and over.
But I couldn't think of anything - it seems to me every Pleasure Island scenario has practically been done to death by now. So instead I decided to do a little tribute to the Disney animators themselves, and imagine just how they might have worked out the action for that sequence. I take some comfort thinking an artist's desk hasn't changed that much in 80 years.
