Grizabella the Glamour Cat - she's a fallen woman, and the heart and soul of the musical.
Since her scenes happen in the main part of the action, she's more Disney style than some of the others. My idea is her songs would play like moving paintings over Impressionistic shots of the grim London streets she lives on, like something out of John Hubley, or Ralph Bakshi in his more soulful moments.
She also evokes a little of Mewsette from 'Gay Purr-ee,' which fits, because Judy Garland is a soul sister of Grizabella. She evokes Judy in her darkest hours, and songs like ‘Paris is a Lonely Town’ are in the same vein as ‘Memory’ - “The glamour’s gone, the shades are down/ and Paris is only another town.”
By the way, I know placing her under a poster of herself when she was young and beautiful is cruel, but boy is it effective.
