My character for a Lancer: No Room for a Wallflower campaign. Barrett was initially used for a Dungeons & Dragons run where the character wound up diverting from my original vision (a washed-out veteran turned merc, tired of conflict and disenfranchised with his country's values). In Wallflower, the background translates pretty one-to-one, only now it's sci-fi instead of fantasy.
Barrett, going by the callsign of "Lyre," is a middle-aged man who has eschewed his militant lifestyle in favor of bringing some good into the world using his Everest mech, Trilby. Finding himself a stand-out amongst machine men, animal people and pop stars, he does his best to be amiable and fit in - even if his crewmates are a little bit off the wall. When the ship ferrying them to a distant planet encounters an engine failure, a new reality sets in: unless they can find replacement parts, Lyre and the crew are stuck here for a year. At least there's good work to be done and money to be made. Surprisingly nimble for somebody his age, Barrett is able to dash, flip, punch and stab in a flash, prefering CQC over firearms.
