After watching a friend’s art stream not too long ago, I was having difficulty thinking of a picture to commission them. Why? Because my ideas mainly involved other Artists’ OCs rather than my own. The reasoning for this is because I just don’t feel as enthusiastic about my own OCs.

I am still bamboozled as to why I don’t feel that much love for my own OCs. While I do enjoy thinking up stories with Leon, Parker and Nixie, the stories are mainly just Nixie’s regular routine of caring for the baby dragons. Whenever I try and make a storyline involving the other OCs, I usually get a nauseous feeling in my stomach and I don’t know why. I get the same feeling when I try and make a big adventure style story involving said OCs.

The Captain’s Log thing was a separate canon, despite the fact I had some fun working on it, I don’t think it’s the setting I want for my Primary canon. There’s also Takoda and the “Shield of Art” series I had her involved in, but I have difficulty working on that as well. Could I make that the main canon somehow? Possibly, but I dunno, I still get that nauseous feeling just thinking about.

I just see the lore and characters made by other artists and they are so adorable and have great lore of their own, often going on grand adventures. I just can’t seem to find a way to inject this same amount of love into my own OCs.

It also didn’t help that the majority of my OCs are dragons. For a long time, I didn’t feel comfortable drawing OCs that weren’t dragons or reptiles. Now that I have expanded my horizons, I can see a large amount of my cast is stale due to how similar many of them are. I could change the species of some characters like Mirin, but it feels wrong.

I want to make my characters more interesting. I want to have a setting that could lead to adventures and such. I have some of these elements, but when I try to work with them, I feel sick to my stomach. Why? How can I made a good universe for them that’s entertaining?

Honey, your work is entertaining. I love everything you've done, from the comics to the stories. It's perfectly understandable to feel this way, but you should know that your characters are perfect the way they are. If you don't like the setting, try putting them in another. Like, just pick them up and yeet them into another world, see how their personalities react, and see where it goes to make you happy.

I'm sorry, but I hate that name, it reminds me of that stupid show. This also doesn't help with the lore at all.

Maybe Takoda could interact with Velyo a bit? Since the two of them both work in the arts? I could see Velyo looking up to Takoda as sort of a big-sister type figure.

These all seem like fairly solid bases for characters so far though. I'm excited to see where you take these concepts.
