The Secret Shinx


Poppy awoke to the sound of birds singing a merry tune, one that seemed to sound like one of her favorite songs. She leaned up in her fluffy bed slowly, perking her ears as she listened to the tiny birds that lived in the old chestnut tree that grew next to her window. She yawned loudly as she placed her foot paws down onto her wooden floor boards, which made a light creak as she stood up. She stretched her arms upwards, her pink pajama top pulling up a little to reveal her fluffy, but toned, black furred belly. She giggled a little as she padded over to her built-in wardrobe, to pick out an outfit for the lovely summers day that lay ahead.

She paused as she browsed the built-in wardrobe that was filled to the brim with neatly packed clothes "hmm let’s see... I think I'll wear this today" she said with a smile, as she plucked a lilac colored dress that had a beautiful, butterfly pattern that wound down the length of the dress, off it's hanger "Oh I haven't worn this for ages, it'll be perfect for my date" she churred softly.

The black furred vulpine padded into her bathroom kicking the door closed behind her, with a flash of pink she quickly pulled off her pajama top revealing a cream colored bra that supported her ample, black furred breasts. Next she murred quietly as she slipped the lilac dress over her head, pulling her pajama shorts off as she let the silk like material roll down her body slowly, until it settled leaving the wonderful dress to hang slightly off her body. With a swift movement she used her paw to undo a special hole at the back of the dress; as a result her cloud like tail sprang through the hole and floated gracefully down onto the dress.

A toothy grin spread over her lips as she looked in her full-length mirror, admiring the lilac dress which clashed with her jet black fur. She cooed quietly as she glanced at her arms, then at her legs, then up to her face and ears, she was admiring the bright red zigzag markings that covered her body. She sighed softly as she exited the bathroom and padded through to her cozy living room, quickly grabbing her keys and her purse as she skipped out of her open front door of her small cottage, the door shutting and locking automatically behind her.

Dandelion seeds floated all around her as she skipped down the hill toward her favorite place in the sleepy little village she called home, The Rusty Lemon, a small Victorian style house that the owner had turned into a pub. As she reached the pub she could hear music drifting towards her, getting clearer and louder as she got closer, she giggled as she padded into the colorful innards of the public house and took her usual stool at the bar. There were one or two other patrons at the bar who seemed to be procrastinating by taking shelter in the pubs warm and inviting atmosphere.

Poppy started to sing along to the music quietly only pausing as the barman came over to her "hey there Alphonso, could I get the usual pwease?" she asked sweetly as her crimson eyes looked at Alphonso's chiseled physique and muscles. The muscle bound barman smiled back, sparkly eyes indicating he was a softy at heart "right away Miss Poppy” the gentle giant powdered white colored snow leopard purred. Alphonso rested his white paw on the bar as poured a mixture of colored spirits into a blender, his snow white tail twitching as he added some ice cubes and turns on the blender making the concoction turn into a slush like consistency. He poured the mixture into a glass and added a colorful mini-umbrella and pushed the drink over to Poppy with a chuckle "one black fox special" Poppy giggled "I still can't believe you named a drink after little old me” Alphonso winked at her as he slinked out the door at the back of the bar, leaving Poppy alone at the bar as the other patrons had moved from the bar to a table to have lunch.

Time passes as Poppy's glass became empty multiple times with no sign of the mysterious man that had asked to meet her at The Rusty Lemon, she sighed loudly and opened her purse delving her paw inside and pulling out a pawful of change which she counted and left on the bar with a handwritten note, she then twirled around and padded out of The Rusty Lemon. Alphonso re-appeared just as Poppy's cloud like tail slinked through the open door, he spotted the change and the note on the bar and padded over to pick then up "hehe what's Miss Poppy written today I wonder?" he said as he opened the note and read aloud, "all things no matter how small can dent a persons confidence in the long run, you just have to push any doubt away so you can live everyday with a smile". He smiled as he ran his paw over the signature at the bottom of the note "typical Poppy always thinking of others" he purred as he pinned the note to a corkboard that was full of old notes, no two the same, all of them signed at the bottom with the same colored ink with a curl on the end of the Y.

Poppy padded over the soft grass slowly making her way through the small park that surrounded The Rusty Lemon, she sniffed loudly as she sat beneath an old oak tree. Curling her tail around her she leaned her head back against the gnarled tree trunk, closing her eyes softly, drifting off slowly as a single tear rolled down her left cheek. The hours past and eventually a small figure staggered towards the old oak tree. the small creature padded underneath the trees canopy, struggling up the slight hill before collapsing next to a strange looking figure with a quiet eep.

Poppy awoke slowly feeling something brush against her leg as she looked down at her legs to see what it was; she let out a little gasp as her eyes settled on the small violet colored Shinx that lay beside her. She thought to herself 'oh my gosh this poor little guy has been through the wars" she surveyed the small creatures' form she noticed that his violet fur was stained with crimson, from multiple scratch wounds that covered his belly, his green cross shaped tail and deep gouge over his right eye.

The little Shinx shifted a little letting out a quiet whimper as he looked up the strange figure curiously, his purple colored eyes scanning over the black furred creature stopping as his gaze met with hers. Poppy thought for a moment then slowly stood up, she leaned down and laid him across her arms. The Shinx looked up to her with a confused eep "it's okay, I'm not going to hurt you little guy" the curious looking fox said sweetly as she carried the injured dog-like Pokémon up the hill towards her lone cottage. The door opened with a creak as she approached a closed softly as she padded into the living room, she gently placed the violet Shinx onto her cream couch, making sure to move her soft blanket under the injured Pokémon.

Poppy knelt down beside the couch and hovered her paws over the Shinx's' small form, in a blink of an eye she had closed her eyes softly "just keep still my little friend" she said quietly, her paws starting to glow a light green. The wee canine let out a purr as he felt an unusual warmth flow over his body, he looked down at his belly as he witnessed the scratches on it heal up leaving no trace they were ever there. Poppy's paws slowly lost their glow as all the scratches healed and disappeared, all that is... except the deep gouge over his eye which healed but a red scar was left behind. The young Pokémon smiled and wagged his green, cross shaped tail "t-t-t-t...thank you" he managed to utter as Poppy opened her eyes a little "it's no big deal my friend" she whispered before suddenly collapsing in a heap on the floor.

An unknown time later Poppy awoke to the small Shinx licking at her right paw, she sat up slowly holding her head with her other paw "ugh...what happening...how long was I out?" she muttered as she noticed that the curtains were drawn and the light had been turned off. She shook her head a little as she gasped finding herself in her bed "how...on earth?” she exclaimed, a small voice said "erm I carried you in here miss" Poppy perked her ears and looked down at the Shinx as he jumped up onto her belly.

The candid Pokémon looked at with a troubled look on his face "you collapsed after you healed me, so I carried you in here and kept watch, I was ever so worried about you miss" he said with a sniff. Poppy gently placed her paw on his violet furred cheek "it is okay, I'm fine... I think I overdid it a little though teehee" she said with a murr, "so my vibrant friend... I'm glad to meet such a kind individual" she held out her paw to the Pokémon "my names' Poppy my new friend". The candid Pokémon placed his paw in hers slowly "n-n-n...nice to meet you Poppy he said with a smile, "I'm sure a cutie like you has an equally cute name" she said quizzically, tilting her head a little, the Shinx blushed a light pink at the word cute. The Shinx looked at her uncertainly "w-w-well I don't really have a name Miss Poppy..." he said quietly, Poppy gasped a little "you don't have a name, well we'll have to think of one" she said taking a glance at the colorful canine as a name popped into her head.

She thought to herself 'that name...it's because of him I remembered plus it's different and should suit this colorful little guy', the Pokémon looked at her curiously "how about Linebeck?" she exclaimed happily. The Shinx perked his ears and smiled "L-L-Linebeck...I like that name...” Poppy smiled as she lay back against the pillows "I like it too... it's the name of very dear friend of mine" she said with yawn. Right here it is... my attempt at writing a story >.<

This story is about how Poppy met her great friend and live-in pet Linebeck ^w^

I decided from the begining that it should have a picture to go with it, I coloured this lineart that was drawn by the ever talented stealthdragon91 of FA.

The story was written by yours truely and lovingly edited by my brother implements73 of FA.

So... yeah enjoy the story and feel free to critique in the comments ^^
