"Are you sure this will work?" Joey asked
"Of coarse it will, who do you think i am, I've worked with such spells before, this should be trivial to you by now" A familiar voice called out unseen
"Well if you say so, i just don't want to do this and make you disapear for good" Joey replied
"Not likely I don't think it will be that easy to break the fox possession I used on you" The voice called out yet again
"Well true, though you never know" Joey replied as he finished setting up a small spell circle
"I have been musing this over for quite some time young otter, I am certain that this won't threaten to separate us. Don't worry, I would have you do this if i wasn't sure it would work" Ryuchi replied to try and calm Joeys mind
Joey stepped carefully into the spell circle trusting Ryuchi's judgement and began to recite the spell. As Joey read the spell aloud, each part of the circle began to glow brightly with magic before finally fully lit up engulfing the otter in a bright shining light. Once the light dimmed, Joey looked opening his eyes and saw Ryuchi standing in front of him.
"Ryuchi!? But how!?" Joey exclaimed confused by what he was seeing
"Calm down, i'm still bound to you, this is just a sot of astral projection" Ryuchi replied
"Astral projection?" Joey questioned
"Yes, the spell you cast sent a small part of me into the outside world, you can still see and hear me, but others won't" Ryuchi explained as he walked around
"Does this mean you can interact with anything?" Joey questioned trying to understand the magic
"Well yes and no to an extent" Ryuchi began to answer, "I can't interact with things like you can, however, I can do this" Ryuchi explained as he walked through the wall of Joey's bedroom
Joey tilted his head some as he scratched behind his ear a bit trying to understand how that really helps with much before Ryuchi returned.
"I can pass through almost any wall and see what is on the other side of said wall, and I can in turn return and tell you about it, it can be useful in the right circumstances" Ryuchi explained
"Huh, that is pretty neat, how far can you go?" Joey asked
"Not very, i am still tethered to you, i wont be able to go very far, but it will still be enough if we should ever need to use it" Ryuchi answered
"When exactly will we ever need to spy on anything though?" Joey asked
"When your a kitsune its a good idea to be prepared for just about anything, though i guess you don't need to be told that" Ryuchi replied
"Yeah, least things have been relatively normal lately" Joey commented as he sat down on his bed
Ryuchi walked on up to Joey and knelt down in front of him, "So are you ready then for the entrance exam?" Ryuchi asked
"Yeah, I mean I should be you have been teaching me" Joey answered some feeling confident
"Mind you, I only achieved two tails, it's nothing to truly brag about, I can only teach you so much, but as long as you remember what i have been teaching you, you will get in without trouble. Just remember, they are more interested in seeing control than anything, don't try to do anything big" Ryuchi explained with a smile
"Yeah i know, you tell me that every time I practice" Joey replied smiling t his friend
"Well i gotta make sure you remember, so do you remember that little trick I taught you to travel around?" Ryuchi asked with a raised eyebrow
"Yeah, I remember it's easy" Joey replied as he walked on over to his closet door
"Easy huh? last time you tried this you opened up a door to a pizza restraunt" Ryuchi commented
"Well... I wanted pizza, so that's why I went there" Joey answered defendingly
"We were trying to open a door to my shop" Ryuchi commented
Joey said nothing as he placed his hand on the door and began to recite a spell causing small spell circles to appear on the closet door. Upon finishing the spell, Joey opened the door up slowly and revealed a a school hallway as a door was in front of him with the writing of, Headmaster, was printed on the doors window.
"This is it, better get a move on, don't want to be late now, do we?" Ryuchi asked as he walked on through and into the school
Joey just hurried on through and closed the door, turning around Joey saw he was standing outside the broom closet.
"So what kind of entrance exam am I looking at?" Joey asked his friend
"Control" was all Ryuchi replied as he passed through the door
Joey hurried on up and entered on inside as he saw a tall well built red furred kitsune sitting behind a desk as his nine tails swished all about idly waiting for the little otter arrive.
"Ah, good to see you, Mr. Finisra I presume?" The Kitsune asked
"Yes, that is me, it is a pleasure to meet you" Joey responded walking up to shake the headmasters hand in greeting
"Please, have a seat and we shall begin your little entrance exam" He replied pointing to a red arm chair in front of his desk
Joey nodded his head and sat on down making himself comfortable as he looked up seeing the kitsune set up a board on the wall. The board was covered in sheets of paper with various shapes and symbols written on them. Joey could only blink in confusion wondering what it was for, while the kitsune continued to set up objects, placing a glass of water with a leaf floating in it on top of his desk.
"Lets start with these two tests first, and then we will move onto the last two. Choose which test you wish take first" The kitsune replied taking a seat
Joey just stared at the objects the kitsune set up not knowing what he was even supposed to do. Feeling more confident with water, the otter pointed towards the glass of water.
"I think the water test would be a good start" Was all Joey could think of to say
"Very well then, just move the leaf around in a full circle using only water magic, you must not spill a drop and it must be a full circle no more and no less" He explained
Joey just stared at the glass feeling nervous as he held out his hands around the glass and began to focus. Taking a deep breath, Joey began focus his mana causing his paws to glow, as the water in the glass began to ripple some before the leaf began to move faintly as the headmaster observed. The otter didn't pay any mind to the kitsunes observation, doing his best to keep focused as the leaf had soon made a full circle and stopped.
"I must say, I am impressed. To be honest I thought it was made up that an otter gained kitsune magic, I see now that story is true, you would be an excellent addition here, if you pass the remaining tests. Now then, test of air, you must use air magic to lift up the paper, but only, the papers I instruct" The kitsune explained
Joey nodded his head and again went to to work on the test. He focused as he held out his right hand and looked at the papers he was instructed to lift up and with flexes of his fingers, conjured up small drafts of wind that lifted up the papers he wanted.
"Very impressive, you only have two more tests, lets start with another easy one" The kitsune replies as he placed a single candle on the desk
Joey needed no explanation as to what the test was and took a deep breath. Cupping his hands around the wick of the candle he began to channel his mana into the candle to light it trying his best to not use Ryuchi's ice fire by accident. The headmaster raised an eyebrow as he caught a brief glimpse of what he could only identify as a tiny patch of frost reflecting the light from his desk lamp before it melted away and the candle was soon lit.
"Tell me boy, do you have any knowledge of ice magic yet?" was all the kitsune asked Joey
After an hour, Joey soon walked on out of the office and looked seeing he was face to face with an orange charsune.
"So, how did it go?" Char asked
"Well......." Joey trailed on sounding a bit glum
"Yes.....?" Char asked trailing on a bit curious of what the result was
"I PASSED!" Joey exclaimed cheerfully
"Good to hear buddy, Violet told me you were gunna be taking the entrance exam today so i hurried on over as fast as i could to celebrate you passing" Char replied smiling widely
"But how did you know I would pass?" Joey asked confused
"Because you have been taught by the best! Anyone taught by Violet always passes the exams here!" Char exclaimed excitedly
"Well guess we will be classmates here then" Joey commented happily
"Yup! Lets go out and celebrate with some pizza!" Char proposed energetically
"Sure thing, I just gotta go grab something from home real quick" Joey answered
"Hehe, what is it? need a change?" Char teased as he stuck out his tongue
"NO! i just need to grab my wallet and i'm potty trained" Joey replied blushing deeply
"Sure you are" Char teased as he playfully hugged his friend
Joey hugged back and returned back to his home through the closet he came out of only to see a wrapped package on his bed.
"Wait, how did this get here?" Joey asked
Ryuchi walked on up to it and examined it, "Looks like there's a note here. Congratulations on making it into the academy, here is a gift to help bring you luck, signed, friend of a friend"
"Friend of a friend? Making it into the academy? I don't know how everyone knows all this stuff, and who is this friend of a friend, which friend is that?" Joey asked as he opened the package
Inside was a sea blue steel sword, its blade was etched with various markings and symbols of the sea itself, the hilt was made sturdy and at the base of the hilt was a single sapphire blue gem that glistened in the light as one final note rested inside the box reading, Riptide.
"A sword?" Joey asked
"Heh, not no ordinary sword boy, I have seen that craftsmanship before, that's a holy sword, seems my old friend is still helping us out" Ryuchi replied as Joey just kept looking at the blade
