The first part of a story I'm writing featuring Serena and her sister returning to their parent's home in Icehold. If you enjoy the art or the story, please leave a comment and a like!

Serena watched as the country side passed outside the train window as she neared Icehold. A few days ago, her classes let out for a week for Founding Day, so students could travel home and celebrate with family. Normally, the vixen would never head home to her parents, much preferring to stay with her roommate, Katie or her twin sister, Lorelei.

A smile tugged at the edges of her mouth as she remembered last year, when the three of them had gotten together for house party, just the three of them. They'd gotten all kinds of junk food, movies, and games to spend the whole night having fun. The others had given her so much grief for her movie choices, but still indulged her. Then they all played games in Katie's computer. Katie wiped the floor with both of them, but they had fun regardless.

Serena had been looking forward to another Founding Day night. With the three of them able to hit the clubs this year, Serena had expected it to be a blast.

Instead, she was on a train to Icehold, headed to her parents home.

Her mom called her once a week to check up on her, but her father typically only called once a month to ask about her university studies. He had arranged for Serena to attend the same prestigious college that he had, Cypress River College of Law, with the intention of having her work at the law firm he was partner at.

It was a surprise then, when he suddenly called her out of the blue a few days before Founding Day. Apparently, there was a formal party going on at the capital for some really important people, and he wanted Serena and Lorelei to attend with him and their mom.  As much as she would have liked to, Serena couldn't refuse. Her parents paid for college for her, as they frequently liked to remind her.

She hadn't ever really been a good student. No terrible, but not great either. Her teachers always said she had her head in the clouds. If not for her father's influence, she might not have even made it into any college. Now it was something he held over her head.

Serena had gone through three jobs this semester alone. Had she not been such a good shot, she probably wouldn't have done as well as she did during her mandatory one year service in the Wolfen military. If she hadn't joined Katie in her online persona 'Skittles' in performing sexual online shows, she wouldn't have been able to afford her bills without begging her father for money.

She wasn't thrilled with these shows for horny perverts, but it was better than telling her father she couldn't hold down a job. On the other paw, she shuddered at the thought of her parents finding out what she was doing for money now.

She was brought out of her thoughts by her sister returning from changing her clothes. Lorelei flopped down in the seat across from Serena with a sigh.

"I hate wearing these," Lorelei growled, tugging at the collar of her button down shirt. "These things are always too tight around the chest."

Serena chuckled and pointed out, "isn't everything too tight for someone who's usually only fur clad?"

"My point exactly," Lorelei said as she released another button, displaying a little more cleavage.

"Guess I should get changed too," Serena sighed. "We'll be there soon."

Lorelei frowned at Serena's reaction. "Still feeling upset about going home? It's not so bad."

"For you," Serena grumbled. "Dad doesn't try to run your life like he does mine."

"Well, you know how he wanted someone to follow in his footsteps," Lorelei said sympathetically, "and I can't stand all that boring law stuff."

"I can't either," Serena said. "I've been barely passing since I started. They would probably have failed me if I wasn't..." Serena fell quiet.

"If you weren't dad's daughter," Lorelei finished for her.

She put her hand on Serena's knee and gave her an encouraging smile. "Hey, come on," she said, "don't be like that. Give yourself some credit. You're a lot smarter than you think."

"Mom and dad don't think so," Serena countered. "They're always choosing things for me because they know better. Like college!"

"Aw, come on, Serena," Lorelei chastised her, "they're our parents. They'll always want what's best for us. They just want us to have the best life they can give us."

Serena didn't answer. Lorelei just couldn't understand. She hadn't done much better in school, but she'd always been more of an athlete. She'd played basketball and softball in school, and had done very well in both.

Back when they lived at home, their parents had proudly displayed Lorelei's trophies and awards, showing them off to anyone who came to the house. When these visitors would ask about Serena's achievements, her father would always comment coldly that they were eagerly awaiting Serena's awards. Something that only happened after Serena won prom queen and was given a small trophy to sit among Lorelei's much larger ones.

Because Lorelei had a clear path in her life her father was mostly hands off with the vixen. Even when she eschewed their father's advice on college and instead chose to reenlist for two more years after her mandatory service, her parents were very supportive. When Serena expressed a desire to go to a different college, they told her she would go to Cypress River or she'd be paying for her own school and she'd be moving out of their house.

"I have to get changed," Serena said as she stood and grabbed her bag. She headed to the back of the train car.

"Serena..." She could hear her sister say behind her.

Serena stepped into a small changing room at the back of the train car. She set her bag down and pulled her clothes out of it. Their father was on the Emperor's council and so they would be expected to dress to reflect his position at all times.

The fox stripped down to her underwear, placing her old clothes aside. She pulled a thick, warm turtleneck sweater on to counter Icehold's cold. Next she slipped into a pair of tight black slacks. She kept her normal shoes, though. It was just too cold for her dress shoes. Finally she put a professional jacket, something she hoped would look like a real lawyer to avoid a lecture from her father.

Serena stepped back out and headed back to her seat. Lorelei gave her an approving look, sipping a drink she must have gotten while Serena had been changing.

"Oh, very nice, sis!" Lorelei said. "You're making me feel underdressed." She grinned and added, "granted, I usually feel that way, being naked and all, but still!"

Serena returned her grin, sitting back down. "Thanks."

No sooner had her tail end hit the seat than the PA overhead announced that they would be arriving in Icehold soon and that everyone not continuing north should prepare to disembark.

The two sisters chatted as the train pulled into the station. Once the train came to a complete stop, they stood and grabbed their suitcases. They made their way through the line of people leaving the train until they were inside the station.

"Mom and dad should meet us out front," Lorelei told Serena.

   "Okay, let's go before-"

Serena was cut off by the train's whistle screaming as it's doors close and it started to slowly pull away. Both sister's ears had folded back, the high pitch whistle making their ears ring.

"Ahh, nevermind," Serena groaned. "Let's just go."

Both foxes worked their way through the crowded station until they could step outside into the city of Icehold.

"Ohh!" Lorelei shivered a little. "I'd forgotten how cold it is here!"

Serena chuckled and pointed to her turtleneck. "Told you you'd want something heavier!"

Lorelei stuck out her tongue playfully. She looked around, then frowned. "I don't see Mom and Dad."

"Must not be here yet," Serena said with a shrug. She sat down on a nearby bench to wait.

"I hope they get here soon!" Lorelei said as she shivered again. She eyed the snow covered bench Serena was sitting on and opted to remain standing.

"It's been a while since I've seen snow like this," Serena said, letting her foot sink into the cold, white snow.

"You don't get snow in Cypress River?" Lorelei asked. "I know it's to the south but I figured you'd still get some."

"A little, yeah," Serena said, gathering more of the snow in her hands. "But it usually melts before the next snow comes through. It doesn't really build up."

Lorelei eyed her sister wearily as Serena continued to pack the snow in her paws. "Serena, don't you dare..."

"It's also mostly all powder," Serena continued to speak, a grin slowly spreading across her muzzle. "You can't really pack it like this snow."

   "Serena, I'm serious!" Lorelei warned.

"It's no good for snowballs!" Serena cried, launching the packed snow at her sister. Lorelei screeched as the cold snow struck her on the chest, splattering cold snow all over the vixen.

"Serena!" Lorelei growled, trying brush the snow off of her before it could melt. "Oh, you're gonna get it!"

Serena was too busy laughing to notice Lorelei quickly recover. The vixen hastily gathered her own snowball and launched it at her antagonizer with all the practice of a softball player.

Serena's laughter was cut short by a snowball smashing into her face with a yelp. Serena was prepared to fire another volley, perhaps use the bench as cover, when the sound of a car honk caused both sisters to look over towards the street.

An expensive black SUV had just pulled up in the street next to the train station. The girls could see their mother in the passenger seat and their disapproving father driving.

Both vixens dropped the snowballs they'd been forming and grabbed their suitcases, hurrying to the car, Lorelei eager to escape the cold.
