I dont think that plate of chillidogs was meant for Sonic solely...
Being as huge as Sonic now is has both its advantages and disadvantages. Advantages include being super strong - helpful for fighting off enemies. Disadvantages - Loss of Sonic's flagship superspeed. Now here comes another one, hunger. Sonic was considered to have a rather healthy before, helpful for that speedy metabolism - but it seems his now-hulking frame has only added to this, as he is not easily satiated anymore. He was a big eater before, but now he's an even bigger one - that will get expensive quick!
