Kyo's Custom Roadster

This is a custom roadster built and driven by my OC, Kyo Yamanaka. :) Kyo is a skilled mechanic, and gathered all of the parts to built his roadster himself. Some parts he managed to purchase, and others he found at scrap and junkyards. He built it so he could journey to search for his father. It's Kyo's pride and joy, and he considers it both a friend and partner as well. :)
The car is a combination of various components. The dashboard is from an old truck, and has been rewired by Kyo so it features turn indicators and a pair of warning lights for when the car is running low on fuel or it's engine is overheating. Three switches have been added to the dash as well; one switches on/off the headlights, on switches on/off the high beams, and on switches on/off the hazard lights. The car uses two different pairs of tires; the front pair being Porsche drift tires, and the rear pair being all terrain truck tires used to help the car get through, snow, mud, dirt, and any other terrains the car may need to power through. The rear tires only offer all terrain traction and protection for the back of the car to propel the car through or over difficult road conditions and obstacles. This leaves the front tires vulnerable to possible popping, tears, or punctures. The car runs on a water cooled engine and is fueled by unleaded gasoline. The gas tank is made to hold 20 gallons of gas. Some may consider this a bit of a small tank, but the car makes up for that with it's fuel efficiency. The car holds the driver plus one passenger, and the back has been extended to hold cargo. Storage compartments hold one front spare tire and one rear spare tire. The car is built with a leather top which can be pulled over the cockpit to protect the the driver, passenger, and cargo from the rain. A 5 gallon gas can is secured to the side of the car as well in case Kyo runs out of gas. Kyo tries to stay on top of how much gas his car has left, but he keeps the spare gas can just to be safe. If emptied, Kyo usually refills it when he reaches a gas station.
One of the features to his car that Kyo is most proud of is the Turbo Boost, which is controlled by a button on the steering wheel. Once engaged, the car gains a burst of speed that lasts for 5 seconds. After that, the engine needs 10 seconds to recover before the Turbo Boost can be engaged again. If the button is held down, the car will get a continuous speed booster without needing to recover. However, the Turbo Boost can be stressful on the engine, and consumes a large amount of fuel. If the button is held down too long, it can cause damage to the engine, cause the engine to overheat, or cause the car to run out of gas. Kyo only built the Turbo Boost to be used for quick boosts and getaways, and not for continuous use at a time. For these reasons, Kyo only holds the button down as a last resort or during emergencies.
On the back, Kyo has various cargo. A sleeping big enough for him and Melody in case they cannot find or afford a hotel (it's sized for two adults is why), his toolbox, a keepsake box, a box for his clothes, and a box for Melody's clothes. Kyo keeps his tools with him to perform any maintenance that may need to be done on the car. Many or the parts were obtained from scrap and junkyards, so breakdowns do happen, and Kyo is always ready for them.

Part of the design of the car was inspired by the Caterham Super Seven, and I got the ideas for the storage compartments on the sides from the ones most RVs have. The idea for the gas can to be secured and mounted on the side of the car came from how you often see Jeeps that have at least one can of gas secured on the back. The hubcaps of the front tires were inspired by those from some of the earlier Porsche 911 Carrera RS models, and the back tires were inspired by truck mud tires. I wanted it to be like something someone would put together with whatever parts they could find that went together, and this was the final result. :) Originally, the body was going to be a hotrod red color to make the lightning bolt on the side stand out, but I later switched it to yellow and simply darkened the color of the lightning bolt since yellow looked better on the car than red did in my opinion. All in all, this was a pretty fun project to work on, and I had a lot of fun putting the car together^_^. I plan on naming it once I think of a fitting name. :)

And for those of you wondering, Kyo and Melody both address the car as a boy
