Honestly I doubt this would be nearly as contentious an argument if the US actually treated animation respectfully and not as the junk you dump kids in front of to get them out of your hair. The whole "cartoons are for kids" mentality has probably irreversibly ruined the medium.

The people who claim "cartoons are for kids" turn a blind eye to Western animation such as The Simpsons, South Park, and Family Guy. Hypocrites, they are. And they don't like to be reminded of it.

Thats the thing... Everyone has essentially decided that adult cartoons are supposed to be crass sitcoms and nothing more. People straight up forget the stories that were possible in say Disney movies like it is somehow something completely different than animated media. Simba's dad dies in the lion king for instance. You see him go through grief and sever depression. Yet somehow all american cartoons need to be Teen Titans GO or Family Guy now.... It freaking sucks...

to be honest classifying anime as just another cartoon but made in japan would be the same as calling a 3 course meal and a single hamburger the same thing.. hell let's keep on the toppic of food for our American watchers and make a example for those who do not know the difference between a anime and a cartoon. Burger King , Mac Donald's, Wendie's, Jack in a Box , KFC, All have a "burger" on their menu the first 4 are mostly serving the beef patty kind while with KFC it's a crispy chicken fillet and has a different taste experience. Maybe it's a dumb example but the only ones who don't get it don't care about what they shove into their pie hole.
