Olivia stood proudly in front of her class. She had been teaching them math, and was very happy with their progress. She had been explaining some of the addition and subtractions that had the same answers, teaching them how two equations could have the same result, even if they had completely different numbers.

When she finished, she turned to face her class and asked them if anyone could give her another pair of equations with different numbers, but the same answers. A young snowy owl boy, Marshall, raised his hand and when she had called on him, he had excitedly stood before speaking.

"Seven plus six and ten plus three!" He had said eagerly. Olivia had nodded, resting her hands on her desk and smiling at him. "That's absolutely correct, Marshall! Very good! Would anyone else like to try?" She looked about the room, and moments later a wolf pup, Lydia, raised her hand. "Um...Four and two...and three with three?" She asked shyly.

Olivia nodded. "That's right Lydia! Alright, you both get a candy bar, would anyone else like to try?" Olivia asked, pulling a bowl of mini-sized candy bars from her desk and handing them to Marshall and Lydia as they ran up excitedly, quickly heading back to their desks to eat their prizes.

With the reward of candy present, the rest of the students began offering up examples one by one. Olivia felt her heart swell, every single one was correct, and not a single child went without a prize that lesson. She loved her students, and it made her happiest to see them so eager to learn. Luka had suggested offering rewards for good students, and it had worked wonders.

She'd yet to see a failed test since starting the reward system, and the students were more attentive than ever, knowing that at any moment candy could be offered for correct answers. She never saw it as bribery, though other teachers accused her of it. She simply saw it as rewarding the efforts her students made to learn. Touching the stone heart over her chest, she smiled, thinking of Luka who was most likely down the hall or in the cafeteria.

Soon it would be recess, and she and her husband could spend a few moments together, each enjoying the fruits of their labors in peace.
