Name: Annalise Reilly Alufa
Species/Form: Manaphy
Ability: Hydration
Gender: Female (?)
Age: 19
Physical description: 4’11”, 110 lbs. (on average). Human in shape, but lacking feet in favor of small stubs at the bottom tip of her legs – however, Annalise can shape-shift and form feet to fill shoes if needed. Her arms are quite long and have rounded ends, although they can form a four-fingered hand if needed: items are usually held by ‘absorbing’ items and using the water flow inside of her body to turn, twist, push or pull them. When overly saturated, her arms will swell with the excess water until it is either redirected or expelled. Her antennae reach down to her feet and just barely touch the ground with their spherical ends, although they are usually floating and arch above her head, putting them at around waist-height. The red gem on her chest is around the size of a thumb, and the yellow spot below that a quarter of its size. The markings on her face – the yellow circles resembling eyelashes – come to just above her eyes. Her hair is mainly combed back in a long ‘wave’ with very little hair on the side of her head, coming in a canard color.
Her scout uniform includes a pleated knee-length skirt with a buckle, a casual short-sleeve shirt and a vest resembling those worn by brownie girls on top of that, complete with accessories she has earned by being a scout – the most noticeable ones being the flag resembling a Pokeball, and her troop number being 490. A side-pack hangs from the vest’s left side (looking at it from the front), which is just larger than the palm of a hand. She additionally wears a beanie, which has holes for her antennae and covers up most of her hair from the front. The front of the beanie and the side-pack are marked with a jumping figure, while the hem of her shirt and the badge worn on the right side of her vest has a clover symbol on them. Though she usually doesn’t wear shoes, she’ll wear short socks with brown Keen Sterling City Lace shoes if she must.
Casual wear includes a straw hat with a red ribbon tied around it (with holes for her antennae to fit through), a bright green rain jacket with a black scarf hanging around her neck, low-hanging dark green skirt pants (claimed to be water-resistant). This is all to ensure she is ‘rain-proof’ while still having at least some degree of fashion. The scarf is used to cover Annalise’s antennae when it is raining, curling them up and making them look like small pigtails to minimize surface area – the scarf is too small to fit her two large antennae under, but it’s “better than nothing”. Even though she can easily get by without worrying about shoes or boots, she’ll wear sky-blue tall rain boots
Personality: Very determined in doing what she thinks is right, and doesn’t let up until the job gets done. Annalise keeps her emotions very separate from her work with the scouts, prioritizing the activities given to her above all else to the point of cancelling appointments or going back on her word with promises. That’s not to say she doesn’t express emotions when she’s on the job; however, her demeanor while wearing her uniform is vastly different from when she’s not doing anything scout-related. While she has boundless enthusiasm, patriotism to the Secret Base Scouts and a bit of a temper when wearing her uniform and performing tasks set for her, when she isn’t donning it she becomes much more expressive by her lonesome, yet loses nearly all drive to participate in anything beyond staring at events from a distance. She would gladly socialize with fellow scouts and friends regardless, but she puts up an emotional icy shell around her when faced with people she doesn’t know, which, along with her eccentric appearance, tends to ward off interested folks from approaching her. Strangers that approach her usually cause her to recede into her scarf, and her speech becomes muffled because of it. On the outside, Annalise appears as a shy, overdressed girl…but she’s just being careful of what she says; after all, she can’t leak information from the scouts, nor can she get too engrossed and make promises that she may later break, and thus dishearten people she calls friends.
Despite only talking to friends or people whom she can trust, Annalise often carries a sarcastic tone of voice, and is quick to judge. She’s prone to rattling on about subjects, to which she’s gotten the humorous (to others, that is) side-effect of hiccupping in the middle of her talking, often due to bubbles forming and thus being expelled with the hiccup. To counter this, she does deep-breathing exercises and dry-coughs to dislodge any bubbles before talking for a period of time beyond a single sentence in anything louder than a hushed voice. She’s easily embarrassed about it when it comes up in discussion, but strongly insists that it’s just biological and she can do nothing about it.
Moves:
Starter
1. Tail Glow – Produces a fair amount of light from the spheres at the end of her antennae, while heightening the strength of special attacks. She can ‘toggle’ this move – both antennae lit up means that she’ll get a boost in any special attacks, but can’t use her antennae to fire off any of them. Having only one lit up means she gets half as much power, but the free antenna can be used for attacks as well.
2. Bubble – While this move is often unintentionally used, it has some strength in battle. Bubbles can be fired from either her mouth or her antennae, and slam into opponents before popping and potentially disorientating foes – even though their ‘slamming’ isn’t much to brag about, being bubbles.
3. Knock Off – With her long arms, Annalise can easily swing them about to knock away items that would normally be out of reach to others. As such, this move is often used when it is underestimated how long she can extend her arms, and even if the foe does not have an item, they still have the force to damage upon contact.
4. Secret Power – Forming her hand into a fist and plunging it forward, the environment around Annalise is used to power up the move, giving it a chance to inflict a status on the foe. Though it is used in battle, it seems as if she was taught to use the move in a specific way, by first pumping her hand in the air before reaching back to cock the punch; perhaps there is a deeper meaning behind why she would elaborate the motions so much…
Freshmon Semester 1
1. Supersonic – Emitted by her antennae, this high-frequency sound wave attack can disrupt fragile equipment, can cause ears to hum if they are within hearing distance, and generally throw foes into confusion due to temporary hearing loss - although the move is mostly used for echolocation outside of battle.
2. Mud Slap – A good scout knows how to use their environment to their advantage. In light of this, Annalise isn’t above fighting dirty, blinding opponents with a handful of mud. Even with just dirt around, she can wet any dirt into mud to use for this. This can also be used to create small mud structures when the mud dries.
Freshmon Semester 2
1. Signal Beam – A double-helix beam of red and blue particles is emitted from a duo of arms or antennae, or a mixture of either. The particles are slow, so it can easily be dodged, but each particle can disorient the foe’s sight with its mix of colors. At short range, it’s somewhat of a shotgun move.
2. Waterfall – Outside of battle, this move is useful for traversing moving water with ease, especially pushing against flowing currents. In battle, it’s much like a charge attack – only without the pressure of water to block her movement. The impact of the move is done by bending her arms into a horizontal ‘shield’ in front of her and diving at the foe when she gets close, accompanied by a sudden jet of water pushing her forward for extra momentum. She can jet herself quite the distance for a long-distance charge attack, but she can’t change direction until she cuts the jets, and thus, cancels the attack.
