Character Description
As a Hybrid, Artailea resembles a mix of a Ninetales and an Articuno. Her base form is that of a Ninetales, but she has the wings, crest, and tail of an Articuno.
Overall, she mostly resembles a Ninetales in form, but the traits of each aspect of her are apparent in some manners.
She's of a lithe, sleek, but toned and muscular build with generous curvature but has two distinct forms; that of her Alolan forme and that of her standard forme.
In her standard form, the majority of her fur, from the shoulders back is an icy blue, more reminiscent of Articuno's coloring than a Ninetales', but the top half of her is the familiar, creamy yellow and white of a Ninetales. Her belly is a soft, snow-white. Her wings fade from the familiar Ninetales' cream into an Articuno ice-blue and then into a fiery orange at her wing edges. Her mane also matches this pattern as well.
In her Alolan Forme, Artailea undergoes a significant color transmutation. Like with her standard form, her upper half is a Ninetales' cream, but that's where the resemblance ends. Her lower body is a soft, fairy like pink that fades into a rich, ice-blue. Her tails and wings follow this pattern too and no longer have that fiery orange fringe.
In all forms, Artailea possesses the familiar reddish eyes of a Ninetales, but they appear to be more ruby-magenta than red.
Personality
Artailea is a warm-hearted, compassionate, and tender Pokemon who is sensitive to the Spirit Realm, considering that she grew up upon Mt. Pyre.
She devoutly fulfills her duties as a Guardian and will ruthlessly eradicate those that seek to steal the Orbs as Rayquaza told her of the severe repercussions that could happen should they ever fall into the wrong hands.
Background/History
Artailea is a rare Pokemon, initially born as an Alolan Vulpix and an Articuno hybrid. She doesn't know how or why she was born as she was, but it occured after a particularly devastating calamity affected the balance of the world, resulting in new changes,possibilities and mutations.
Artailea lives on Mt. Pyre and serves as the Guardian of the Orbs of Ire and Calm under Rayquaza and she came into her power by accident.
Later, her family decided to move to Hoenn upon Mt. Pyre and she grew up there. Over time, her body absorbed the natural energies of both the orbs and the mountain's sacred power. This shifted her form into that of a more traditional Vulpix's. Although her parents didn't change, she did, but she didn't understand why.
When she was around her teenage years and had begun exploring, learning about evolution stones and began trying to figure out how to evolve. It was then that she came into her power, by accident. It was late at night while she was exploring Mt. Chimney and the many Dark and Fire types that lurked around the mountain and the Jagged Path, were rather territorial, not to mention they didn't like an 'abomination' traversing their territories. They relentlessly attacked and pursued her back to the mountain's peak, intending to shove her into the fiery lava below to exterminate her. Badly wounded and greatly terrified, Artailea's instincts for self-preservation kicked in and without realizing it, she unleashed a devastating power which flash freeze and destroyed them.
She buried the mountain in a blanket of snow and ice and the local residents cried for help from the Expedition Society. They cornered her and just as they were going to strike finishing blows, a swirling maelstrom of ice and snow revealed Articuno herself, who stepped in, calmed the teams and spirited the terrified vixen away. Articuno brought her to Kanto, but Rayquaza, Kyogre, and Groudon were already aware of what had happened, since it had occured in their lands. Rayquaza sent word to Arceus, who in turn commanded Lugia to bring both Articuno and Artailea before her. This was the second, similar occurence within the span of a few years, the first one having involved another named Nytalia.
This time, however, Arceus herself, along with Rayquaza, and Lugia, as well as Articuno discussed the matter of stripping Artailea from her powers. As before Lugia suggested putting this new hybrid through 'Trials of Acceptance' which Rayquaza agreed to, on the condition that should she pass, Artailea would be remanded to his control. Lugia and Articuno agreed and Arceus stated the condition that Articuno would be the one to train Artailea since it was her who had rescued the Hybrid.
After the meeting, Articuno took Artailea away to the Sea Foam Islands in Kanto to train and mentor the young Hybrid. Artailea grew strong and skilled under Articuno's tutelage and even developed her Signature Move while a Vulpix. When it came to battling Articuno for the Trials though, Artailea didn't stand a chance, but thanks to her skill and her Signature Move, she'd managed to damage and wound her mentor. She was defeated soon after, but her efforts had proven her skill sufficient to warrant granting her a place as one of Arceus' Guardians.
Given the fact that Artailea was an Alolan Vulpix by nature, but had acquired the form of a normal Vulpix, Arceus revealed that she'd not be able to evolve through normal means. She told Artailea that she couldn't give her the position as a Guardian unless she was evolved, since she would be unable to reach her maximum potential. She then fashioned a special amulet for Artailea, infused with both the power of an Ice Stone and a Fire Stone, which would allow her to evolve and change into both her Alolan Forme and her standard forme.
Once Artailea donned the necklace, she evolved, was granted the position, and then assigned to Rayquaza, who dictated that she guard the Orbs of Ire and Calm upon her home of Mt. Pyre.
