This is a very, very special piece to me. When I first got Pokemon Sun for Christmas from a friend, I had long given up on the series for repeating a stale format; get eight badges, save the world from a regional organization trying to play with gods, piss said god off setting off the end of the world, catch said god, beat the Elite Four and Champion, game over. Sun/Moon was exactly what I was looking for; gone are the gym leaders, replaced by Trial Captains and Totem Pokemon. It's not Team Skull who's the bad guy, but the Aether Foundation who looked clean and spotless. Instead of pissing off a regional god, Science goes too far and tears a hole into a brand new dimension filled with bizarre horrors, with an entire race packing a special neurotoxin that can make someone an addict. The major leader behind what's wrong is not just our first ever female evil final boss, but she became a monster who saw her children as dolls, and when Lillie finally stands up to her, TRIES TO KILL HER. The three only flaws to what was a perfect Pokemon game for me was A. the Flying type member of the Elite Four coming out of nowhere, B. we are DENIED our rightful battle against Monster Lusamine, instead forced to fight her powered up team (COWARDS!!!) and of course, C. ULTRA Sun and Moon exist, forcing Ash's new special snowflake Dusk Lyacanrock on us (I personally feel the canon of games and anime should never, EVER merge) and breaking my perfect first female Pokemon boss.
But through it all (No worries, rant's over), I went in blind with the Popplio line. Never saw the spoilers for the Evolution. I ADORED her when she became a Brionnie, and when Aquamarine evolved into Primarina... Damn everything that got in my way, she was a Water/Fairy powerhouse, clean sweeping away everything in my way. I admit, I'm adding a fourth but minor flaw to Sun/Moon here; I don't understand why Duecideye got a Ghost Z-Crystal and Incineroar a Dark Z-Crystal, but Primarina was shafted with a Water Z-Crystal instead of Fairy. I'm a little confused why this happened, and if you have an answer, hey, I'd love to hear it in the comments. Anyway. Aquamarine was near and dear to me, which is why she gets a very special place in the manor as one of my lovely wives. She's on a rank above Poppy, a shock. But this Pokemon reconnected me to a series I drifted away from, and like a sweet song slinging siren, she rekindled my flame for the series. Expect to see her now and then.
Thanks for listening and reading this. She's a part of my heart, and part of why I love Pokemon again.
