A naval fleet is sent to investigate a large, unidentified sonar signature submerged in territorial waters. As the signature approached, its data appeared anomalous: it moved impossibly fast, in maneuvers not expected from conventional ships; and the signature, already larger than any known man-made vessel, appeared to be growing larger.
At first, the technicians manning the sensor displays suspected a system fault. However, when multiple ships confirmed the sonar data, alarm began to set in. An order was given to scramble the fighters in preparation to confront the unknown. The only warning the pilots managed to report back in time was an enormous black shadow approaching the fleet 30 seconds before it arrived.
The unidentified object emerged: a sea otter, tens of thousands of feet long from head to tail. The still-growing otter soon had the entire diminutive fleet trapped between his paws. It provided little comfort to the terrified crew members to find that the vast otter had stopped growing; the otter arrived at a total estimated length of 21 miles, long enough to where his backside partially rested upon the ocean floor.
Panicked, the fleet unleashed missiles, bombs, and gunfire upon the sensitive pads of the otter's two-mile-high paws in a vain attempt to deter his curiosity. The hopelessly-enormous otter was seemingly unfazed from the attacks, and the fleet's only option for survival was to hope that he didn't make any sudden movements.
