Background/History
The city of Crescent lies within a vast desert, though not too far from the coastline. It's relative accessibility makes it a crucial point along a bustling trade route. One of the keys to it's sustainability in the brutal desert is that the oasis city houses the Crescent Moon Oasis. It's proximity to a coastland port means it has thrived as a tradehub and remains the key city in the Oleander's territory, as the territory that they control is rather vast, but much of it remains uninhabitable. They haven't tried to expand their territory much either.
The true secret to why every generation of his admittedly low membered family must be strong warriors, and as to why the oasis hasn't dried up in centuries is due to a powerful water elemental sealed at the bottom of the oasis. They protect the seal from threats of being broken, and continue to strengthen it, ensuring it never falls into disrepair and releases the terrible monster. They also go through great lengths to ensure pollutants do not enter the water's source. The effects could be catastrophic if it strengthens the already powerful water aligned elemental that produces the clean, clear waters of the oasis.
Relatives/Family
The Oleanders have a rich martial tradition, which is very necessary for their continued existence. Their limited numbers make it essential that each member of the family be combat capable in some capacity.. From deterring would-be bandits and raiders from attacking their rich and thriving city, to preventing those with more nefarious schemes from awakening the sealed beast and it's minions from their slumber. Strong warriors are a must to keep the calamitous water elemental at bay. All of the members of the Oleander family have some amount of draconic heritage within them, their bloodline granting them supernatural strength and grace.
World/Setting
The elders have high expectations of their family members, as there very few members per generation. They are expected to be warriors and to never betray their duty to the clan. The expectations of Oran are even higher, as he is being raised as the next leader of his clan. In regards to most members personal lives, the noble family tends to be rather lax, as long as their bottom lines aren't being crossed. As the son and next in line of the current Sovereign, Oran is usually referred to as "Lord" or "Prince" by the common folk. His proper title would be "Prince Oran of Oleander."
