I've been playing Fallout 4 again and made a new Sole Survivor. This one is more closely aligned to the actual story, except neither they, nor their husband were ever a soldier or lawyer. More like, an accountant and a computer programmer/house spouse (except, they weren't technically married either, at least not legally, in spirit they were).
This is Briar Deitrick, an american badger in my Furrout AU (I haven't really drawn them as a human yet).
I'm working on a more thorough write up about them, but I haven't had a lot of time due to school work. But, basically they're a lovable goofball who is not afraid to kick some ass when they need to. They never fired a gun before the war, so they had to fall back on what they know. In their youth they had been rather athletic. Though their mom had tried to share her love of baseball with them, they only really enjoyed being up at bat. Their real claim to excellence was in martial arts. A national champion, and an olympic hopeful at one point. Although they gave it up long before the war, they were never more grateful to have those experiences than once they finally crawled out of that vault and into this terrifying new world.
They are a terrifying fighter, but if it was up to them, they would much rather get to be the lover that they are. A hopeless romantic with a soul of an artist. They draw, they sing, they can even play piano (if you can find one since the big kaboom, that is). Jack of all trades, master of none type of person. They are fascinated by people, and really enjoy getting to know people deeply, and figuring out what makes them tick. They tend to be rather accepting of people and open minded to a wide variety of experiences, and many folks very quickly warm up to them. However, they can also be swayed by their emotions and desire to help people.
SO man, they *really* lucked out that the merc they hired to help him go save Valentine was someone like MacCready (a coyote). Not only do they share a lot of interests (especially comics), but they also have a shared history of loss, grief and fucked up childhoods.
