Thomas Kane was always a solitary individual and had always lived alone with only the S.T.R.I.P.E.S organisation along with his close family and friends for company, until an incident whilst hiking in a remote forest in Quebec, Canada where he witnessed a brutal slaying of a couple and finding their infant daughter amongst the ruins.

He raised the baby back in the United Kingdom, registering her under he name Amanda Olwen, along with his own surname Kane. Despite the extra workload, Kane brought the child up well alongside aforementioned colleagues and close compatriots.

One particular memory he has of her as a toddler was not long after doing some washing he couldn't find the second striped sock of a pair, and after coming up short he gave up the search and threw out the solitary odd.

However, after Amanda stirred in her sleep Kane showed up to check on her and the whereabouts of the sock finally came to light. Amanda had secretly stolen it and had been using it the whole time as a comforter of sorts.

From that day onward, Kane had taken the liberty of nicknaming her "Stripey Socky" or simply "Socky" for short
