I may have never watched the show but all I've seen of Pinkie Pie tells me she while she may try to cheer up people, she tends to lack tact and empathy. She doesn't care why people are sad, she just wants them to stop frowning. A person forcing a smile is just as valid and someone actually happy to her. Make me wonder if she's actually happy herself or just acting that way because that's what people expect.

Pinkie really does tend to leap into an encounter before much consideration. If it weren't for the show being a half-hour format, I'd expect there'd have been at least one episode where this issue got explored.
And I agree that Chryssie's natural makes her a lot better at cold-reading than Pinkie, special talent notwithstanding.
