Mammoth Mogul - Commission For DreamGod
Pensive
After the nuclear apocalypse, the Mojave wasteland is crawling with all kinds of unusual critters. Although, I suspect Crew of having ulterior motives when it comes to "studying" some of them.

Okay, so this might require some context: First and foremost this is a birthday gift for antidev , featuring his sona Crew. So happy birthday to you! :3

He and I started talking about the game Fallout: New Vegas, which came at the tail end of me finishing a playthrough of Fallout 1 and 2 and revisiting New Vegas, which I had originally played years ago but never finished. It was a lot of fun sharing experiences, ideas for character builds and me now having more insight into the first two games, I could appreciate some of the elements of New Vegas a lot more.

I recently finished the game after clocking in over 160 hours and with Crew's birthday coming up, I thought it would make for a good basis for a picture idea. The Fallout games feature a mutated species called Deathclaws, which are usually very vicious and tough enemies, but their visual design - especially in Fallout 4, which I used as the basis here - has it's..."perks". ;3

The character depicted here is Goris, my favorite from Fallout 2, who is a friendly & highly intelligent Deathclaw, who you can recruit as a companion. You can even get him as a, sadly unvoiced, companion for New Vegas, using a mod: LINK.

So all in all it's an amalgamation of various ideas from different games and I really enjoyed working on this. :3

Enjoy!

Goris is the goodest boi. ^-^ Hopefully you did your playthrough with the community patch, it gives you a chance at a satisfying ending with the deathclaws.

I played with the community patch yes, but only after playing through it, I learned about the alternative ending, sadly.

I was surprised that there are quite a few pieces of really awesome fanart of him out there! Seems like struck a chord with a lot of players. :3

Goris was an awesome companion would be nice if we could get a companion like him in the next Fallout. I mean according to the lore of Fallout, Goris and another Deathclaw are counted as survivors of what happened to their clan. And the intelligence is able to be passed down should Goris or the other Deathclaw sire any children. So, there could be another clan or more of intelligent Deathclaws out there in the wastelands.

Ugh, wouldn't it be great if Bethesda actually cared enough to give us more sentient and friendly Deathclaws? Having played New Vegas however, I feel that without the help of veteran Fallout writers at Obsidian, the next game of the series will once again fall short of its true potential.

This is something I feel happens to a lot of games when it comes to sequels. Unless the game is a direct sequel then the devs tend to just forget about the lore that the previous iteration created. Sometimes they'll flat-out contradict what is previously established, which is a shame since they have a chance to build and develop it further.

Plus, Goris was a great change of pace from another bog standard human companion. So, how interesting would it be for a future fallout if we were to discover his descendants hiding out in the wasteland somewhere? Maybe they're known only a select few, or maybe just a local settlement knows of them. It could make for interesting ideas of how to get them involved in the story. Perhaps like Goris, some member of the clan is curious about the world and wishes to travel. Maybe they're sent on a rite of passage. And while they're at it, they could always introduce the S'Lanter (raccoons experimented on by the Enclave and evolved by the FEV) or some of the other older ideas to widen the inhabitants of the world of Fallout.

I wouldn't say it happens with a lot of games, but I guess everyone has their own opinion about that.

My only real gripe would be if Bethesda came back with a sentient Deathclaw companion in a new Fallout game and they would introduce it as it would be something completely new and revolutionary. That would really piss me off. But other than that, I think we don't really have to hold our collective breaths about them making anything that comes close to the level of intricacy of the old games or New Vegas.
