A YEAR old??

I'm guessing they age at the same rate as their feral cousins.  Likely as not, sis is 2 years old.
MooseJam

You would be correct in that assumption
MviluUatusun

Yeah.  I thought so.  It does seem strange to see anthros that age at the feral rate rather than the human rate.  Even Tom Fischbach's Keidran age at about half the rate.

The education system in this world must be insane!
MooseJam

It probably depends on how fast they learn.  They may skip multiple grades while we plod along one after another.

I imagine that anthros with short lifespans (5-15 years) have a near photographic memory for the first 2 years of their life to facilitate learning. Lot of people with eiditic memory lose it as they get older. It's a documented thing in children. Scientifically don't know why all species would be able to evolve like this, but all species have a common ancestor, so maybe that plays a role in it. This also assumes that species like the dog were able to self-domesticate themselves and breed conservatively into different breeds of dog to get specific breeds such as a German Shepherd. Never seen a furry comic consider the logistics of how specific breeds of dog anthros can come into existence without the aid of humans playing a role. It would require explaining that anthros can and do prefer eugenics and reproductive segregation (the very thing humans did to create certain breeds in the first place). Not a good look for a world that never had humans :^) Perhaps it is best not to think too hard on education when asking that requires revealing a darker reality of furry comics.

I wrote up a pretty long essay a while ago about about the socio-political ramifications of a species that aged far quicker than the norm. (an essay I sadly lost, ugh).

Basically the premise that the human cycle for advancements was greatly sped up for those species that had a shorter life span because they needed to adapt far quicker, or die off. When one removes the need to survive in nature (or in essence, mastered nature instead of being mastered by it), and the basic needs of food, water, shelter, society/selection of mates are met... then that leaves a LOT of free time to get creative.

Darwinism is not a kind master, but for those that break the cycle of surviving just long enough to propagate, there is very little left to restrict that species.

That does not actually explain why all species would be able to evolve into anthros given their life span. "We must adapt faster or die off" is a hand wave. In real life, humans evolved despite living in nature with the constant threat of predation. Surviving just long enough to propagate does not mean you're going to age quicker. Humans that age too quickly have severe mental defects. Hell, even autism is a result of the brain developing too quickly. Species that have no natural predators aren't evolving any faster than species that have many natural predators. Evolution is a random process; for all species to have become anthropomorphic and intelligent through truly random mutation is a statistical impossibility. Therefor, there must linkage disequilibrium, and the genes that allow for anthropomorphism must have many synonymous codons. Intelligence would be a crapshoot; animals with short lifespans (ex. the Sunda rat living 6 months to one year) likely are as dumb as rocks.

Intelligence is certainly a crap shoot, no argument there. Evolution would have those who can adapt the best, have the best chances to pass the traits that allowed them to succeed on to the next generation.

Intelligence early on might not be one such factor, but if I remember right, when man transitioned from being dominated by nature to dominating it, there had to be a new metric to decide who was the most 'successful'. And that's where I had written that intelligence led itself to become a key factor.

Before that shift, it was our damned stubbornness and ability to track prey over very long distances (which is part intelligence and perception) that led to successful hunts.

So before when nature had dominion, intelligence was in balance with stamina, perception, and a few other traits needed to have a successful hunt, then complex language allowed cooperation, which allowed mankind to get an edge over nature... mind you, I was referring a transition period measured in centuries and millennium.

Then... we hit the age where we obtained a purely man made and artificially event driven society, and at that point all the rules got tossed out the window.

It wasn't the most refined of documents as I was around 15 at the time, so I won't pretend it didn't have errors and leaps of logic the size of mac trucks in it.

Until I read that humans had never existed in this world, I was going to suggest that, perhaps, these anthros became anthros after humans disappeared but, you beat me to the punch.  Quite likely, you're right that they chose eugenics.  Of course, there's also the possibility that, like humans, different areas of the world required different aspects of the original species to become dominant.  Plus, different jobs required the same thing and these eventually evolved into the different breeds/races of animals.  German Shepherds can still breed with, say, Dalmatians who can breed with St. Bernards, etc.  They're all the same species just different races of the same species.
GrimArt

Breeds specifically come from selective eugenics. It is statistically improbable that 550 breeds could come selectively from a natural need for a certain service. You'd have, perhaps, 12 breeds at most. Good idea, though; that's the closest explanation one could come up with for it! It'd work on a lower amount of breeds. :-)
MviluUatusun
1 year, 8 months ago
Oh, yeah.  You're right.  I guess I should have said that the different areas of the world would cause certain aspects of the species to become dominant and then, as certain members of the race took up certain jobs and it, basically, became the job of those members they would deliberately mate with others that had certain aspects that the race's job needed which would cause those aspects to become dominant in that race.

Actually. I think Beastars went into that "how dogs exist" with some weird eugenics program that happened at some point, which resulted in various "domestic" animals.
GrimArt

I don't watch anime so I wouldn't know. Anthros commit intentional eugenics and there's nothing people can do to change that fact so long as one continues to acknowledge that dog breeds exist in an anthro world.

I have not given Roxy a concrete age yet. I've got the plot written to the end; I don't have all specific instances of the comic fleshed out. If her age plays a role in the comic, I may include it. Maybe as an offhanded comment if nothing else. I don't want to commit to her age right now and then put myself into a corner when it could be used for a part of the story I've not yet developed.

This is hurting my brain. She's a year old? But looks like she's 18? Is this some trickery with dog years? xD

She learned to say no at 1 year old. She's applying that lesson 17 years later.

Read page 3 (and the description on page 3), she's 1 year old. This comic is going with the idea that these anthros have the ageing speed, and lifespan, of dogs... In which case (for a German Shepard) 1 year old is early adulthood for them, and most will die of old age by 9, with extremely few living to 13 and beyond.

It slipped my mind that these anthros mature a hell of a lot faster than expected. My mistake.

Well, it's been about 2 months and 3 weeks since page 3, which is a long time to recall what (at the time) seemed like an unimportant information.
GrimArt

I guess when you jerk off to cub porn all the time, unusual ages like 1 year old characters aren't 'important info' to you. lol
MviluUatusun

I will admit that I have a bad habit of not reading descriptions of drawings and pages of comics but, when she said she was a year old and she's definitely grown, I figured she aged like her feral cousins.

You may have learned how to say no, but you ain't quite learned how to accept no, now did you, girl.

I get that animals age a lot quicker. but anthro animals would probably age slower the more anthro they become if evolved.
GrimArt
1 year, 8 months ago
Realistically, you're right; an anthro would likely take much longer to develop based on how long it takes for species like humans to develop their intricate CNS and complex brain. Forcing characters to be considerate of their life span in the actions they take is an interesting concept. So I'm running with it. This specific worldbuilding may not play a huge role in the plot for this story. I'm worldbuilding for future stories that will take place in the same universe. I feel bad for the giant Sunda rat. They don't accomplish anything in life. I bet creatures with shorter life spans are looked down upon because they can't contribute much to society.

I feel the need to reply, even so it is no longer possible possible to react directly to the comment of GrimArt.

While I do not know about other users, I personally am no friend of cub porn per se. (There are artist like Aniemew and lionstorm that caught my interest by giving a story.)
But whether an anthropomorphic dog is one year old or 18 years old doesn't matter if that means she'll reach biological adulthood within the comic, which seemed to be the case when she was introduced driving a car that she didn't appear to have stolen.
GrimArt
1 year, 8 months ago
Why the fuck you lying? You have multiple cub porn from different artists in your fucking favorites. Just because there's a story doesn't negate the fact that it's cub porn that you're jerking off to.
AbiOrionsson
1 year, 8 months ago
As I am no native speaker and regularly need to use a translator, so I might have use "per se" wrong.

But I never said (or rather meant to say) that there is no cub porn to see with the artist I like or in my favorites. (+ that I jerk off to that is your interpretation.)

You said, that I would jerk of to it “all the time”. Yet in my favorites are literally 4 pics depicting cubs (In one of Backlash91's it irritates me, that one counts as cub but still counts in this). I’m honest enough to say, that I also might call 4 of 39 a lot.

Yet, I have no reason to hide what I jerk of too on Inkbunny or other sites like it, but cubs (that I can recognize as cubs) are no part of it.

In addition, I do not use my Favs only for material to jerk of too, but also for pictures that somehow piques my interest. (e.g. a specific character or because I could laugh at it) Well, I barely use them at all, else the would be more than 39 entries.

Also, I am fully aware that some of the things that caught my interest are strange, especially when it is on a site including porn while not being invested into the porn myself but in the outcome inside the comic.

A short question, as I just now looked at the link:
Why did you link a picture of my favorites with near evrey favorite being censored instead of directly linking the favorites?

I am aware that this is not directly related to the point taken, but still it is strange to me, as the (for imgur necessary) censoring is not your helping your point. In this way it is near impossible to tell what is related to your point and what is not.
GrimArt

The blacked out ones are the cub porn. So you're a fucking liar. You have seven, not four, cub porn images favorited, which doesn't make it better. I screenshotted it in case you try to remove your favorites and lie saying that you don't have any favorited. There's no reason for you to have cub porn in your favorites unless you're jerking off to it.
