"Cherry" is just a nickname, and it has nothing to do with her real name. It started as something that mean kids in school would call her to mock her red face and stem-like antennae, but when she started working in the carnival her coworkers taught her not to let words hurt her -- to embrace the nickname, and wear it like armor. And the carnival became her new family on the day they gave her the cherry pendant that she wears.
...Unlike Fig, whose nickname is just short for "Figaro." Not much story there. ' 3'
