Place: Guadeloupe County, New Mexico.
Time: December of 1960
Alex Fox (age 17) is braving 26 miles of riding a bicycle through a winter storm to bring food and a thermos of stew to his grandpa and grandma.
Alex's family is too poor to afford a car. Alex's dad passed away from cancer a few years earlier, leaving his mom, himself, a younger brother, and three younger sisters.
Because Alex Fox is the oldest of the siblings, he was chosen to make the journey to bring food to Grandpa and Grandma.
Fortunately for Alex, snow hasn't begun sticking to the road yet...Pavement has a way of holding ground warmth for a while.
Alex does make the journey, and he is one frosty fox by the time he arrives to Grandma's and Granddad's house. The first thing Alex wants to do was to get that snow covered blanket off and warm up near the wood burning stove his grand parents have.
Alex's mom packed enough food for his grand parents and himself to have until the weather cleared up.
Mama told Alex, "It's bad enough to make the run during the storm. So stay at Grandma's and Grandpa's place until the weather is good".
On pic 4: A car is approaching from a distance away. Fortunately, it is a station wagon. There was enough room for Alex Fox's bicycle, thus although Alex didn't get a ride for the rest of the way, he did get a ride for part of the way...which was better than no ride at all.
