"Forgot to pause"

Being a video game character (and from some pretty brutal games, too), Ecco is unfortunately no stranger to death. What seems to be his next one, though, feels particularly bad. The player got distracted by something and didn't pause, leaving Ecco just below the surface, not quite high enough to be able to breathe. He can't just go up to it, it's part of video game rules that he can't do anything that would affect gameplay without being directed to by a player. All he can do is float in place, nervously looking up at his slowly depleting breath meter and hoping the player comes back in time...

I think this is the first aquaphilia art involving Ecco... Cool!

I feel horrible... I mean I've seen a bit of Ecco the dolphin gameplay and it's rough... but come on, the player couldn't even remember to pause the game? Shame... that player better hope they have like a roommate or something heh

(Definitely gonna make sure this doesn't happen, and since our last video game rp whent we'll, figured I try something like that again)

*someone here is playing a game called Ecco the dolphin, they recently added a new feature where you could go inside the game and join Ecco on his journey, this guy however was playing a level and got distracted and went away, he forgot to pause the game so now Ecco is stuck just underneith the surface, unable to move to the surface...luckily, Glacier the glaceon entered the room and noticed the game was unpaused and the poor dolphin is almost out of breath*
"Uh oh!" *Glacier quickly takes the controller and forces Ecco up to the surface so he can finally breathe*

Glacier's awareness fades, and when it returns, he's on a small island in the ocean, maybe about 20 feet wide. After a few seconds, Ecco pokes his head above the water. "Welcome to the game! How do you feel?"

Ecco starts swimming down with Glacier, going deeper and deeper. The sunlight shines through the water at full strength without care for the depth, with just about anything a diver could want to explore being around; ruins, a reef, a cave, even a shipwreck some distance away!

Nothing really seems to stand out as the two search the ruin, and there doesn't seem to be any kind of air source either...

The next room looks to be the end of the cave, and while there doesn't seem to be air around, there's another crystal. Unlike the others, this one is glowing a pale red, and seems to have two parts to it.

The crystal splits in two, one part remaining with Glacier while the other goes to Ecco. Both crystal parts disappear with a flash, and both Glacier and Ecco see the same message: "Twin vital shard: Raises maximum health of both Ecco and the player."

"Oh, sweet! Ha, we haven't even found enemies yet and we're getting this!"

When the next level starts, Ecco and Glacier are still in the cave, but a way outside is now visible. It doesn't seem to have refreshed the breath of either of them though, and Ecco whines a little from strain. "Th-thought for sure it would've given us air!"
