A NEW WORLD

Prologue

The Before and After

Written by James Rex

*A world quite similar to ours in a universe in which the existence of other species could be confirmed, in this world humans have the same customs and beliefs*

When I was a child my father told me that before my grandfather was born humanity went through two world wars and when my grandfather turned 12 years old a third world war began because the non-renewable resources began to run out bringing with it a great economic instability, many companies, factories and distributors were closed leaving many people without work and in poverty when the banks failed, the transportation of products stopped completely depriving many cities and towns of food and other goods, there were large civil and military uprisings that destabilized society. Corruption and chaos ruled for three long years until the world powers threatened to launch their nuclear weapons.

Thanks to the courage and sacrifice of several soldiers and civilians, it was possible to overthrow and even assassinate the rulers of these countries who had already been consumed by power long before the war began. The war ended and we began a new period of peace, during the reconstruction of society everyone gave each other a helping hand, new laws were imposed and a new government that would be equal for all, North and Latin America united to form the United Americas, England formed the European Alliance with all the countries that make up Europe.

It was possible to replace petroleum fuels, thus improving the ecosystem, the economy stabilized by unifying a universal monetary system, humanity focused on developing technology and discovering how far we could go, I remember when I started my job as a security guard one day an alien ship appeared in very bad condition, two humanoid beings risked to descend to ask for help to humans, after hesitating for a long time the representatives of all the nations approved the request for help and a camp was established for the ship to land, we were all surprised to see the state in which the aliens were, there were many wounded and even dead, then we learned that other beings had invaded their planet and they were the only survivors who managed to flee from what was once their planet, because of the lack of supplies and because their people were dying they were forced to land on earth.

Several countries offered their help and after a while the aliens became part of the human civilization sharing their knowledge and technology.

Thanks to the new technology and knowledge very powerful weapons were created to defend ourselves from invaders and we also developed cryogenics with the purpose of exploring the great universe in which our planet is located, but we did not know that these advances would mark a before and after in the history of planet earth.

One day our scientists discovered a strange chromosome within the genetic structure of a clone that was cryopreserved, this chromosome became a universal cure for any human disease, it was also discovered that it was able to modify the genetic code of any terrestrial living being making it more intelligent.

Because of these experiments some dogs and cats quickly evolved into anthropomorphic beings very similar to us humans, then they became part of the human society after most of the people worldwide realized that they are beings capable of expressing emotions and feelings, I also participated in that protest.

Thanks to the medicine that was produced with the chromosome many people suffering from incurable diseases were healed and people who were not sick became a kind of super humans, they did not age but they were not immortal and their physical and mental abilities were superior to the average human.

It is believed that for this reason this great war began, I suffered a lot when I lost the person I loved the most and my depression increased when the war worsened, because of this I had to make desperate decisions to save the only thing that motivates me to stay alive, the one that helped me to overcome my loss and strengthened my aching soul when I thought all was lost.

*Humanity will not be extinguished for the hand of God, we ourselves will be the executioners of our destiny, ambition and selfishness will be the detonator of our destruction.*

Inside a dark room in which you can only see the dim light of a television screen on a table in the middle of the room.

On the TV a newscast is being transmitted showing the most important events that have happened years ago and that are happening in the present.

Presenter: Monday, April 8, 2057, the technological advances that have been achieved in this century are impressive, when oil ran out, pollution in major cities around the world has been greatly reduced, now vehicles and machinery are powered by renewable fuels that have the same efficiency of oil.

Presenter: The production of these new fuels has really benefited our planet and its inhabitants because now the air is cleaner and pollution has been reduced almost completely.

Presenter: In other news, scientists have managed to build machines capable of freezing a living being and keep it in hibernation for a long time, the prototype of this wonderful scientific work is in the process of testing and according to the data obtained the results are very favorable.

Presenter: Cryonics is going to be a great advance in the field of medicine and space explorations since it will be possible to keep a person alive for a long time without fear of aging with the passage of time.

Presenter: Well that's all for today my dear viewers, have a nice day.

*The transition cuts off and a blank screen is shown, but then the image returns again.*

Presenter: Friday, February 4, 2086, scientists leading the cryonics institute in New York City announced that they have successfully thawed and reanimated the clone of one of the country's most renowned scientists after he had been hibernating for nearly 30 years, and conducted a series of physical and mental tests over a week.

Presenter: During the tests the clone began to show amazing intellectual development and also demonstrated physical prowess surpassing that of a professional athlete.

Presenter: This was affirmed by one of the scientists in charge of these investigations, after monitoring and analyzing the results, the clone's IQ was estimated to be 300, surpassing Marilyn's IQ as recorded in the Guinness Book of Records.

Presenter: In spite of the arduous research, they have not been able to find the reason for his great intellect and brain development, but the scientists stated that they will continue to investigate.

Presenter: We will keep you informed, see you soon.

*The TV tuning is interfering again, but it returns after a few seconds.*

Presenter: October 10, 2090, after 4 years of conducting research of all kinds scientists finally found the origin of the high evolution of the clone, it turns out that the development of their skills and high intelligence is by a genetic mutation in their DNA that originated in the cloning process and developed while he was hibernating.

Presenter: The scientific report states that the clone has developed unique abilities because it has an extra chromosome, this chromosome is compatible with the existing ones (XY) so the scientists named it the Z chromosome and with the DNA samples extracted from the clone the scientists are doing tests to get more information about the functioning of this chromosome.

Presenter: In the tests that were performed on the clone, the scientists were able to see that it is in excellent health, it has also acquired immunity against the most common diseases such as cancer, lupus, HIV among other diseases that do not have effective medicines to eliminate them; now the scientists are trying to find a way to use this immunity to create a medicine that will benefit people suffering from these diseases.

Presenter: Will this be the origin of a new universal medicine that will be able to eliminate any type of disease?. Someday we will know.

Presenter: We will continue reporting, until next time.

*A new signal interference is generated but the TV is tuned in again.*

Presenter: July 30, 2100. Scientists have managed to manipulate and replicate the Z chromosome to be used in hospitals as a medicine capable of eliminating any type of disease, old or new.

Presenter: After the scientists revealed this discovery at a press conference, the clone that gave rise to the chromosome was found lifeless in a hotel, and a message was found next to the body.

Presenter: In that message the clone said that a big mistake was being made by using the chromosome as a medicine and that this will affect the whole world if it continues to be mass produced and that he doesn't want to feel guilty about what could happen so he decided to take his own life.

Presenter: Let's see what the head of research, Dr. Jeff Alvares, has to say.

Dr. Jeff: What happened this afternoon is a shame, this individual was in disagreement since the beginning of the research on the possible benefits that the chromosome could give us.

Dr. Jeff: He said that it was wrong to play with human genetics since he thought it was wrong and inhuman, for this reason he did not want to help us in the research and decided to leave the laboratory to work as a professor at Harvard University.

Reporter: But this chromosome can harm a healthy person or present side effects in people?

Doctor Jeff: No, on the contrary, it is a benefit, several patients with Down's syndrome who were injected with the Z chromosome recovered their mental and physical faculties in their entirety, turning them into normal people capable of expressing themselves and doing things they were not capable of doing before, and the healthy people who underwent the tests have shown amazing brain development and their bodies have also undergone a kind of change making them more athletic and strong, as if they were perfect human beings.

Reporter: So, you mean that the use of the Z chromosome as a medicine for diseases and mental problems makes it a universal medicine that does not present any risk or side effects?.

Dr. Jeff: Definitely, the Z chromosome is now considered a definitive medicine and it is also capable of rejuvenating cells so that people will retain their youth for a longer period of time.

Reporter: Very well, this is all the time we have on the air, thank you for your clarifications Doctor Jeff, it has been a pleasure, until next time.

*A blank screen is generated again and then the transmission returns.*

Presenter: November 01, 2107, The situation in which we find ourselves is becoming more and more critical, the alien beings that arrived on our planet 26 years ago seeking refuge have begun to abandon our planet to avoid the war, which is why they were forced to flee their planet of origin, the war is spreading more and more on all continents.

Presenter: It has been 4 years since the war began, the terrorist group responsible for this chaos has begun to attack more frequently the United Americas and other countries, such as the European Alliance, Russia, China, Japan and Africa; the attacks on cities and shelters are more frequent and worse than before, the military intelligence of the affected countries are increasing patrols and satellite tracking is becoming more invasive in order to find and destroy the center of operations of the terrorists.

Presenter: Weapons that were once created to defend our planet from hostile invasions from other planets are now being used to kill humans again. But so far the terrorist soldiers killed in battle turn out to be clones modified to fight, according to the testimony of our allies the clones captured alive proved to have the sole purpose of eliminating their targets and following orders, it is as if they had no soul, as if they were machines.

Presenter: In another report, Dr. Jeff Alvares was found dead this morning in his Penhouse, medical results showed that he died of cardiac arrest.

Presenter: Investigators found newspapers and computer printout reports all over the room, reviewing the last text messages the doctor sent found that he was remorseful for having participated in the Z chromosome research and felt responsible for causing this war over the control of chromosome production.

Presenter: The presidents of countries around the world decided to cancel the Z chromosome project and all information about its research is being destroyed so that it does not fall into the hands of terrorists, the laboratories are also being dismantled by the military and the medicine created from the chromosome is being transported in large containers to an unknown location.

Presenter: Now the Z chromosome is being heavily guarded in an unknown base.

Presenter: All people worldwide along with canine and feline anthropomorphs are volunteering to join the armed forces and guard the civilians and shelters from this threat.

Presenter: Let's not forget that some former alien soldiers also stayed to join our army as a token of gratitude for allowing them to take refuge on our planet. We will continue to inform you, thank you for your attention.

*An interference is generated again, but this one takes a while to tune in until it does it again but with a little bit of interference.*

Presenter: April 26, 2108, Viewers, a state of high alert has been declared, military intelligence has informed us of a terrible event, a naval destroyer carrying nuclear warheads has been captured by terrorists while patrolling the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, and disappeared without a trace, the air force and navy of Mexico is combing the entire coastal area and offshore in search of the destroyer.

(The missiles or nuclear warheads were created for the purpose of destroying comets and meteors that threaten to impact the earth, and possibly destroy a hostile alien spacecraft.)

Presenter: The Captain of the New York Navy has informed us that the nuclear warheads have enough power to totally erase half of the African surface, it is not yet known what the terrorists intend to do with these weapons but the search is being intensified with air support and U.S. submarines.

Presenter: The armed forces are beginning to evacuate the people living in the largest cities to be sheltered in safe areas, so citizens are asked to take the essentials to survive and go to the evacuation zones as soon as possible, they are asked to remain calm at all times.

Presenter : In other news, at this moment we are starting to restore a relic of the third world war, the great anti-radiation bunker that was built with the purpose of protecting the species from a nuclear apocalypse many years ago, now it is being equipped with the most modern technology and we have started a genetic selection protocol to choose seeds and young animals of each species that exists around the world, this process is being done as fast as possible so it will only take a few weeks to finish the restoration of the bunker that was now named as the "ARCA".

Presenter: We are also selecting children from every human race to be taken to the ARCA, all this is being done with the purpose of preserving the human, animal and plant species of our planet, many of the best professors and scientists are helping to archive all our historical information and scientific advances in an advanced mega computer with the purpose that the new generations that will repopulate our planet will be able to follow our advances and take example in our history to not make the same mistakes of the past and create a new peaceful and prosperous civilization.

Presenter: The evacuations are still in process while the alert is maintained, we also ask people to remain calm and not cause riots, the only thing we can do now is to wait and pray to God for all this to be resolved or ask for his mercy and give us courage to face our inevitable fate, we will continue to report what may happen in these difficult days, thanks for listening.

*The TV loses signal again and finally turns off.*
