I would like to think that even though Tyra's induction ceremony was rather traumatic, it doesn't mean her training necessarily is. I'd hope her supervisor treats his (her?) charges with a measure of cold respect. Like, she might get a swat on the ass with the flat of the blade here for making such an amateurish attack.
I'm not sure what the others are talking about with the swing line.. Are they talking about the one for the mentor doing his "TOO SLOW!" dodge?
