In the past, when the world was at war, Antoine D'Coolette, a cowardly recruit for the military, volunteered to test out a serum that would super soldiers. Having dropped out of school due to being drafted, he accepted, as he was too cowardly and weak otherwise to go overseas to fight. The serum may not have made him braver, but it did enhance his strength and made him more acrobatic. However, an enemy spy would kill the scientist, making him the only one of his kind.

Putting his fear aside, Antoine would become Captain Freedom, dressing in a red, white, and blue uniform and wielding a shield that can bounce off walls and projectiles. In the final days of the war, he would be lost to the ocean, frozen in ice that would put him in suspended animation, keeping him young. However, he is found years later by Super Squirrel and Super Fox, and with the help of Iron Rabbot, he is thawed out. Antoine and Iron Rabbiot, real name Bunnie, become a couple as he decides to learn about the new era, he is in thanks to his efforts leading to Allied victory, and would even become friends and allies with Super Fox, who he calls a big help with getting used to technology and other stuff beyond his time, as well as Black Badger, whose country houses the material his shield is made of and is a fan of, as her grandfather lent the material to the Allies to aid them.
