Sunshine is standing outside on the back porch of his family's home, lighting his children's freshly carved jack-o-lanterns so they could be set out to illuminate the garden that they had originally been grown in. Hopefully having the extra sources of light would help the hedgehog shake that uneasy feeling he had been experiencing every night for nearly a week now, the feeling of being watched as soon as the sun set behind the trees surrounding the back of the house.
He sighs softly as he places Sol's pumpkin beside the walkway that entered one side of the garden, the child had decided to carve the silhouette of a mischievous flying jester into the large squash, the image was slightly lopsided and bumpy but still easily recognized. The father then sets Pandora's pumpkin at the other end of the walkway, the young rabbit had carved what Sunshine thought appeared to be some kind of bird-like alien with a stitched mouth? It sort of resembled someone he had met on one of his dimension hopping adventures, although the wobbly outlines made it hard to tell what it was for sure. He'd have to remember to ask his stepdaughter about it at some point tomorrow.
Despite the warm glow coming from the lanterns Sunshine still felt that familiar unnerving chill creeping up his spine once more, causing him to hurry back into the house and lock the door behind him. Even though he hadn't actually seen anything out of the ordinary so far, he could feel that something odd was brewing beyond the trees just out of sight.
Later That Night
Sunshine stood at his bedroom window staring out into the backyard, listening to his husband's soft breathing as he slept peacefully in their bed. He wanted to be sound asleep as well but that nagging feeling of dread still hadn't left his mind, keeping him awake well past midnight while his family slept.
Halloween had been mostly uneventful (especially compared to what happened last year) for the family, they had gone out trick-or-treating together and watched some child friendly spooky movies while they checked over the kids' candy to make sure that it was safe for them to eat, only for said kids to fall asleep still wearing their costumes. The father had carried them to bed after getting them into their pajamas while his husband took care of the twins.
The hedgehog was suddenly snapped out of his thoughts when he spots a small figure seemingly floating through the garden to inspect their Halloween decorations and the children's jack-o-lanterns, the figure was emitting an almost ghostly glitchy glow as it drifted around, merely observing their surroundings.
"What the hell is that...?" He shudders at the surge of anxiety that this stranger caused in him.
