I'm not saying that people I disagree with should be dragged to Hell by the vengeful spirits of 90s pop stars, I'm just saying that today's anti-racism is kind of the opposite of what they preached. And also that I love Michael Jackson's songs.

Like... I mean, some racial things are definitely grey zones, or just red flags, mostly involving the use of racial epithets that the races may use for themselves, but others may not, and whether or not it's a disservice to the original artist's intentions to edit the work to ease racial insecurities or what have you... There, I lean towards maybe not singing the song, to be honest.

But for MJ? SERIOUSLY? I understand a lot of the woke culture, and anti-racism, and all the rest, but it does feel like the pendulum has swung a little too far in that direction.

Then again, the backpedaling side of things is also fighting harder, so... logical discourse has sort of faded into obscurity.

When people don't understand MJ's message in his song Black or White.

Michael Jackson songs are great! I think the current generations should listen to his songs and try to understand the message in some of them

That feels more like Boomerang Racism than Anti-Racism to me or something...the idea that people can't share culture just feels like segregation with extra steps. but what do I know, I'm not a very smart person.

It's exactly segregation

Huh. Never had this experience (The being told that certain songs are race-exclusive for enjoyment. I *have* been dragged to hell by a couple 90's pop artists before.. man, those were the days.)

"YOU'RE GOING TO NEVERLAND, BITCH!"

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!"

Seriously though, Black & White is my favorite MJ song.

I hear about folks talking about people who say things like that, but I've never come across one in my life, either online or offline.

Personally, neither have I, but I keep finding screenshots and videos of people who seem to actually think that way.

It's like being in a car accident, (fortunately) most people will only ever hear about people being in one or see the wreckage afterward but never experience it themselves. Fortunately the kind of people who do that tend drive others away and become self isolating.

If its on the internet, its probably fake. Shoot, sometimes stuff in real life is fake--I saw someone with a sword once and I know it was photoshopped.

So just the internet so far? Yeah that checks out.

The irony is that the person complaining is almost always a white young girl who does it for attention.

I keep reading your post and the only thought I keep having is, "How do you know that?"

I've never encountered this before, but considering the wide diversity of humanity, I'm sure these kinds of people exist. I assume that the handful who hold this kind of thinking were probably introduced to the idea of cultural misappropriation and haven't really figured out what that is yet and are therefore still learning what it means to be culturally sensitive.

It is a sadly a pretty common sight in twitter and tumblr.

They consistently send groupies and even try to DOX people they dislike when they try to cancel X person for Y reasons that sometimes makes no sense.

Some are pretty fucking dumb reasons.. for example.. the Avatar the last airbender cartoon.
There was an insane fight between young girls about shipping main characters..

There were even death threats to the writer because the camp that favoured Katara getting with Zuko(Zutaras) did not accept that the canon pairing was Aang with Katara ( Katang ).

Similar to those groups.. of a similar type... the ones who get outraged over nothing and "defend" minorities of stuff that is not in their scope.

Example.. the whole Mexican month stuff with sharing food, etc..
White kids suddenly starting attacking people who were sharing their attempts to replicate mexican food in other countries.
And we ( me as a mexican) love to share my culture were absolutely flabbergasted at these stupid girls making us look bad.
aka proxy outrage.

Currently twitter is a shitfest for similar.. where certain people lower than 18 are attacking artists who draw adult stuff or "shippers" that the group did not "approve".
Even to the point of doxing, reporting to police, massive harassment.
Infecting a lot of fandoms right now.

hitting the TMNT fandom by a lot lately.

Twitter is a stinky hole in the internet. My advice would be to cut it out of your life if at all possible, especially since it can now be accurately called Musker. More generally, Twitter isn't indicative of the larger world and entire chunks of twitter aren't indicative of other chunks of twitter.

Nothing to do with Musk right now but yes.. Twitter pandered to some of the worst cancers there.
Still a cancerous necessity for some artists.

It actually is. It's just a more dense group of extremes. No difference from Facebook before they started culling extremism.
Difference is the demographics.
Adults liked facebook more, kids prefer twitter/tumblr.

Of course, we're talking about ONLINE groups, not real world.
Their actions whomever, do spill to real world effects.
calling cops, calling family, targeted harassment, claiming you're pedophile to your boss and workplace, etc..

It's bizarre that Twitter is as popular as it is. In my entire life I've never heard anyone have anything positive to say about it, yet somehow they keep picking up users

The positives is that it allows very easy access to artists, their sharing, etc..
And allows easy following, blocking, etc..

Problem is the aforementioned users trying to be cancer against individuals they dislike instead of just blocking and moving on.

As for facebook.. yeeeeah.. Thats a whole different animal.

I'm part Celtic, part Iberian, part Carthaginian, part Roman, part Visigoth, part Arab, part Hebrew, part Berber, part Gypsy, part Irish, all current human races are but an amalgam of many others and therefore make no sense and do not matter, all people should be treated equally regardless of their pigmentation.
