Legends are stories retold time and time again, with their minor elements fading to the passage of time and their stronger elements reoccurring more often until they're perpetually woven into all tellings of the tale. This means that within the Legend of Zelda, a rock spitting octopus is just as crucial to it's story telling as is it's themes of endless battles of good and evil waged across time itself... Legends are funny like that!
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't have it any other way! The fact that Octoroks are more prominent figures in the series then Ganon or even Zelda herself is really funny to me. Truly, if there's one complaint I have for the series as a whole, it's that Twilight Princess saw fit to rob them of their perfect attendance award; a decision which I, for the life of me, cannot understand. I don't know, maybe they all partied too hard after getting said award in Wind Waker and slept in when the time came for Twilight Princess? Probably not, but the idea of a bunch of hung over Octoroks is too funny of an idea for me to not accept as canon.
