Black, the default color of goths, metal heads and the only color scheme apps should be using was originally an exceedingly difficult color to create. There's a number of debates if various groups even had it. However, by the later middle ages, rolling into the renaissance, it became the color of nobility. Originating in Spain, the cost involved in maintain rich black clothing established one as a person of means. This spread over the next century to nearly all of Europe.
